yes its optimal in a short-term financial sense. otoh being out of the title-race by september because half of our best XI and new signings werent present in preseason cant be optimal.

And when was the last time one of out starting XI players came in after pre season?

How many starting XI players do you think we will sign this summer? In fact dont answer that as it will only start guessing games. The point is this is how we do business for a reason, and I don't see that changing in the short term.

It has always been the case it was going to happen this way. For financial reasons this is the optimal way for us to operate in the Summer window. So expect a rinse and repeat performance next Summer as well.

You've literally said it all summer, I'm disappointed but not sure why people are shocked by it.

Makes sense, completely. But we now have three weeks to conclude all of our summer transfer business, which doesn't seem like an awful lot of time given how we appear to normally do business! Trust needed in Poch and Levy.

Thanks for the info as always.

With 3 weeks to go and no one signed any player we do sign will need a lot of training to bring his fitness levels up to Poch standerds. So bringing the t\fer window forward is all but pointless.

But sellng to buy is misleading, its not about raising funds, its simply good house keeping and being in control.....

I would argue that strictly adhering to moving players on before bringing new ones in cedes control away from the club.

It's not like stuff isn't being done now in preparation though is it. The way everyone is panicing its like we are going to sell and then decide who we want. Again the lists of potential incomings have been there for a long time and we are more than aware of where things currently stand with them.

Lucas Moura:)

So I guess we need to sell to buy but not necessarily in that order.

The linear approach that some people have on here to buying and selling is extremely frustrating, boring and pointless. Especially when ITKs stress that TRANSFERS DONT WORK THAT WAY!

No, i know, and that's why i said three weeks to conclude business - throw in a late Levy or rival chairman moving the goalposts and that time will quickly evaporate.

Might be more of a case that it's all seemingly being done last minute again, which may seem surprising with all the brave talk

I’m a bit worried about the lack of transfers but I’m far more concerned that these new contracts haven’t been announced yet.

Dont agree, the players we bring will NOT go straight into the first team, new signings will be introduced gradually so it isnt actually pointless, if anything it works in our favour

Exactly the art of good squad management as you said. I think people will be surprised by the changes to our squad that we have for the start of the season

But then neither can having 40 players attached to the first team on the wage bill? Unlike old times I'm pretty confident most of the players deemed surplus to requirements will get moved. After all you are potentially looking at outs including Alderweireld, Dembele, Llorente, Janssen and sissoko amongst others. Obviously Sissoko we will probably lose money on but you'd expect teams below us would still want him. I'd say it's largely Toby and Dembele that will kick things off. I'm sure we would happily keep Dembele and carry on as we are. Toby we obviously want to push out but that doesn't obviously effect the first team as it was last year, his fee will likely be the difference between a world class signing or not.

Still hopeful that we'll pull a rabbit or two out of the hat come the end of the window, but I have to say my confidence is wavering somewhat.

I keep telling myself the big issue was that our three prime targets (CB - De Ligt/Pavard, WF - Martial and CM - ?) are tied in to the potential Toby and Dembele sales, which have been delayed by the World Cup. I would have liked at least Grealish in by now however.

I guess we are fortunate to at least have Moura settling in and almost being a new signing, plus a fit and fresh Lamela too.

Obviously if we buy before we sell it makes it harder to shift the likes of Sissoko/Janssen/N'Koudou at a decent price, but I'd hope we didn't put too much of our stuff on hold for those guys, unless there's a PL club knocking around that wants to pay stupid money for them. Such a shame Sunderland and Stoke aren't around any more :ROFLMAO:

Thanks for the info. Seems like we will have the streamlined squad that the boss wants.

Can't see any incomings this week based on JJ's tweet

So disappointing that we're probably going on this US tour without any new players to get up to scratch and on the same page with Poch

I think it’s fair to be concerned by JJ’s tweet. There were two months between the transfer window opening and the World Cup starting. Levy seemingly wanted to wait until after the World Cup, in the hope that our players (Toby, Dembele) had great tournaments and pushed their prices up.

We’ve now got a few weeks until the window ends and the season starts, half our squad are going to be knackered, there is a grand total of one concrete link at the moment with no outgoings seeming imminent - we are running the risk of leaving ourselves short handed at the start of the season, again. We can only blame ourselves for bloating our squad with players like Sissoko, Janssen, Llorente and Nkoudou.

At least Lamela, Aurier and Lucas will be like new signings.
