If it’s down to squad places, then we must be confident of shifting players soon. Just over three weeks to go- I solemnly swear to not shit the bed before then

Whereas I just can’t make that kind of commitment

If that’s actually what’s going on then hopefully our big departures - Toby and Moose - being back will speed that up.

But others should have had plenty of time to find new teams. If that’s right that’s a bit of a mess.

It doesn’t mean we won’t get good players in - feasibly we could be lining them behind the scenes - but it does mean they won’t, as usual, have any sort of pre-season

Surely jj is referring to the fact that we wouldn't buy certain players until sure that others are actually going, esp Toby and dembele.

It has always been the case it was going to happen this way. For financial reasons this is the optimal way for us to operate in the Summer window. So expect a rinse and repeat performance next Summer as well.

To be honest, having to sell first makes total sense economically. We can’t afford to sign stacks of players, paying them wages every week. There’s a reason why you only have so many players in a squad.

The concern is how our window finishes before most of the other European leagues, who will be in less of a hurry to sign players. How many PL clubs are going to want Sissoko, Nkoudou etc? Whilst the new deadline will be an advantage signing the best young players from across the world, who will want the best wages and the highest transfer fees, getting rid of players currently in our squad will prove more difficult.

With it being a World Cup year, I think it was quite short sighted of the FA to change the closing date of the transfer window this year. The summer window has theorically been short enough as it is with the World Cup only just finishing.

When there are the Toby & Mousa situations still to sort out, coupled with the new shorter window, I am praying that our ‘buy cheap, buy twice’ strategy doesn’t come home to roost during the most important transfer window in the clubs entire history.

Can we stop this ''Levy not backing Poch'' narrative. Poch was well aware of the transfer strategy and our approach to this window. If you are looking to blame someone for our current inactivity it is as much the manager as it is the chairman.

JJ itk is worryingly different from weekends itk. But if squad space is an issue (our non home grown numbers?) then why have we got 3 non home grown goalkeepers?
Hertyid has essentially been saying the same as what JJ just did for a little while now - ie sell to buy.

We were one of the clubs that voted for it.

Potentially not all about wages/salaries. We only have so many spaces in the squad, and a set amount of foreign players allowed, so there's probably a fair amount of juggling to be done, the club need to know what's freed up before knowing what/who they can bring in. Equally, if we overload on numbers, our ability to sell at a premium goes down, as clubs know we have to sell.
Can't say as I'm surprised by this, or particularly concerned.

I'm getting sick of the "brave" comments (whether they are jokes or digs). I'm pretty sure the people making them have absolutely no reliable way of knowing what the context of it was.

It's the new "lessons have been learned". Edgy try-hards looking for easy ratings and attention.

But sellng to buy is misleading, its not about raising funds, its simply good house keeping and being in control.....
Right. I guess that’s the stigma attached to the phrase, but it’s still a requirement to have outs in order to have ins.

Not even so much as housekeeping but just to follow registration rules.

yes its optimal in a short-term financial sense. otoh being out of the title-race by september because half of our best XI and new signings werent present in preseason cant be optimal.
