Yep its bollocks.

Even if he was to be sold Levy wouldn't sell him cheaply. This a man who got 1 million for Gary Docherty.

Well it's in the papers which were printed last night, so I expect it will hit BBC and sky when they launch in the morning. It's an odd one, still trying to get my head around what we do from here.

If I know Daniel levy there will be a statement on our website with 24hrs along the following lines:

Dear fans,

You will doubtless have read recent media reports, as i have, about the future of luka modric.

I would like to take this opportunity to tell you directly about this situation as there have been numerous misleading and dishonest reports in the press and national media.

Luka modric gave an interview in Croatia where he admitted that he would consider a move away from tottenham hotspur, but only if a bid was accepted by the club. Luka has never stated directly he wants to leave tottenham and he assures me he is happy at the club, loves the fans and would be delighted to stay.

However the continued speculation in the press, constant harrassing of him and repeated attempts from our rivals, has created confusion and concern for our fans. So allow me to place on record that I will not allow luke modric to leave tottenham hotspur football club fOr less than 100m pounds. He has a contract and he is happy to honour it.

If a football club bids 100m for his services then I would have an obligation the club and it's stakeholders, including the fans, to consider it. However, for now we are planning for next season with luka as we aim to bring in the two or three world class players to complement what is already the best squad I have known in my time a tottenham.

Fans concerned that there are similarities between this situTion and the transfers of Robbie keane and dimitar berbatov two years ago hopefully understand that back then neither player wanted to stay at tottenham so the board got the maximum possible transfer fee. This is not the same case as luka is happy to honour his contract with us. And I have no intention of selling him.

The one similarity is that one of our best players is being illegally 'tapped up' by a rival club with help from the media. We have evidence of this and will continue to compile it before lodging an official complaint with the fOotball association.

I hope this sttement puts recent reports to an end and inlook forward to presenting new signings on this site over the summer, and in turn watching them play in the same side as luka modric next season as we challenge at the top of the barclays premier league.

I totally understand why Luka wants to go, but, I am hoping Levy stands his ground, at the very least tells him that we want one more year to try and get back in the CL.

If Luka is totally insistent that he wants to go then we should obviously get the best price possible but under no circumstance sell him to Chelsea. Make that absolutely clear to him.

I think its obvious to anyone that the last few days of press have been a stitch up : stupidly lowball offer, agent talk and now Luka's quotes. Very neat.

It's on the BBC, but has been relegated to their "gossip column", so I would assume that they themselves have yet to have any of their sources indicate to them that it's true.

Does anyone believe they aren't Luka's quotes? Possibly edited a bit, taken out of context a bit, but surely they are Luka's words. Surely even the Mail wouldn't mess this up.

The only tiny possibility is that it was a phone interview and the Mail have been stitched up. Impossibly long longshot I know. :)

£100m?

Yeah why not?

Oh there'll probably be something in there about man utd having to sell cristiano ronaldo, which shows every player has a price and no club is a 'selling club' etc.

I agree with the prophecy of a letter, but I think it's appearance is more likley post-sale.

Why is Levy getting a free ride.

He cannot make that last step can he?

A football 'factory' we are.

We need bigger/more ambitious owners end of.

Done a decent job but we need to upgrade. He should have seen this, Luka should be on 80/100 whatever it is. And why did we build the traing ground when we needed a revenue generating asset (i e stadium)?

We are caught in this cycle with him and not good enough for me.

Not a penny from me to he is gone

So he wants to leave but he won't put in a transfer request. We should be OK then shouldn't we? We just need to be strong and firm with any bidders.

Levy needs to sign a big name soon so that Luka can see that we want the title too.

Why pay him £80K? He's rumoured to be on £70K anyway. If all these players who 'just want to win something' put their money where their mouth is and signed on for £30K a week we could actually afford a team that would challenge for the title. As it is we are two or three players away from that.

Having an amazing training ground isn't a bad thing, but agree we need a new ground. We were obviously stitched up with the OS bid which has hurt us.

I've had a nights sleep to think about this. Sell him to Fuck if he wants to leave Fuck him, but he goes to the club that offers the most. As for replacements, I'd get thiago from barca on loan with the possibility of a permanent switch, sign javi martinez. See if we get Adam and parker as replacements that me. We have to invest in players that will improve the team, and getting in these two would set out the wrong message.

Lanh made a good good point last night (yes, rare I know) that if any of us were in our regular jobs we'd also move where the money is. It's not out of disrespect to our employers, but we do what is in our best interests, especially in times of financial woe.

Footballers aren't jumpers for goalposts/romance of the game people, despite the cliche dross they feed the fans in the press. They are employees, and they are employees with very short careers. Hell, if I were a footballer at my age I'd need to have earned all my money already with maybe a season or two left as a swansong and I'm only 34 this year. They live in a world where if they play well enough they become multi-millionaires and can set themselves up to never have to work again. That's the reality of modern football. It's not the Blanchflower age where earnings weren't that high so players had more scope for loyalty.

Players move because the higher you go and the more success you have the more money you get. That's the reality of it, whether we like it or not. If Ledley King didn't have the injury problems that he has do you think he'd still be playing for us and be super loyal?
