Here is today's ITK Discussion thread.

Yesterday, we had a cryptic from Trix, the solution (Asier Illarramendi) was posted a while later:

Trix: "Definite interest on our part, managers preference but waiting to assess his options. The interest though is mutual"

Asier Illarramendi was also the solution to The Goat cryptic in Update 176:

The Goat: A genuine defensive midfielder? At Spurs? The clubs are close to an agreement but his advisors want to wait to see who else shows an interest. The Goat hears that IF this happens it may well be a late one.

So all in all, a good day in the thread. Let us hope today is the same. You've seen how it can roll……...

JJ has just indicated that we are looking at Illaremendi. Someone suggested we get Levy to look at his Youtube clip and JJ replied "already looking at it".

Let's hope if the ITKs are correct, Irramendi is the "next Xabi Alonso" rather than the "next Aquilani"

Still think the Berahino deal will drag on. United sniffing around Kane because they need a striker, and WBA have a cheaper version available. WBA waiting to see how United proceed before finally selling.

The only Saving grace is that van Gaal seems to think he HAS to spend over 40m for any player to justify his job and I don't think Saido is in that bracket.

Seems not too dissimilar to Schneiderlin. Gets about, regains possession a lot and has a great range of passing.

Very interesting. Illaramendi would certainly represent a big coup. I can't see much competition for him out there, unless Arsenal decide they want a DM afterall.

Just have to wait and see but I'm not going to get my hopes up too much. I'm pretty sure Berahino is coming in though.

Given that we've got just two weeks left, I'd imagine things will start to moving soonish- whether that's Illaramende or another DM. The Fazio to WBA story looks to gain momentum, likely indicating Berahino moving in our direction.

Am wondering whether the name of Fellaini will resurface if Illarmendi deal doesn't come off and we edge closer to deadline day. We had ITK earlier this summer he was offered to us IIRC.

Merely a thought.

Not really a dm though. Not what we're after. Will also be on big wages.

Last night at this time I went for beers and pizza and came back to a million posts trying to solve cryptics.
Illarramendi would be a great addition for us as I really feel we need a bit of experience in the middle.
If we get him and Saido then it will have been a great window.

Does our interest in Illarramendi mean we're less confident on Bender?

Both players would be an upgrade but I feel Bender is a better fit. He's worked in a pressing system and he's also more defensively minded.

NB - I wouldn't complain if either came in!
