The fact that WBA made the bid public is very telling. IMO the ball is now in Berahino's court. if he kicks up a stink in training and/or refuses to play at the weekend, suddenly WBA can say they were forced to sell as he didn't want to play for them. I am guessing this all quite coordinated. Thankfully we havent got long to go.

Personally think the WBA chairman has played a blinder. I think we will still get him but maybe 3-5 mil more will be made and it could force Berahino to ask for a move and in turn give up any sort of loyalty bonus.
Good for WBA
Not so good for us in the sense i think it will be complete in the last days of the window because any sooner makes the WBA chairmans public statement look rather foolish. In leaving it 7-10 days he can say things changed, Berahino asked for a move (no-one wants an unhappy player), and spurs made an above acceptable bid

Are there any 'realistic' DM options still available if our line-up of unlikely lads inevitably fail to materialise?

Exactly right. Putting him in the shop window to see if anyone else wants to bid before doing a deal with us.

I don't think its just about that at all. More about creating a perception to the fans ie...appearing strong, but leaving wriggle room if a really big bid comes in.

Everyone knows he's in the shop window. If United wanted him they'd bid irrespective of what we're doing.

I read that Huddlestone is looking for a move and I think we could do a lot worse than bring Tom back to bring some much needed experience into the side.
I actually loved the Hudd. Slower than a TOWIE fan but at least I always felt something positive might happen with the ketchup-botherer on the pitch.

The ITK said Illarramendi became an option due to discussions with his agent about a different DM and from those talks it came out that Illarra was a possible deal. He shares his agent with Dani Parejo, Ignacio Camacho and Tomas Pina who are all La Liga CDM's at a decent standard (Camacho is the best of the 3 imo). Could possibly be looking at one of those still or none of them at all who knows.

Lucas at Liverpool is definitely unwanted and available:confused:

To me he is very much in the 'we can't sign Schneiderlin (Tier A)so let's just pick up Stambouli (tier That'll do)' mould.

Obviously not who we would want but maybe someone in the 'prepared to pay' £££ bracket

He's a player we've missed IMO. I know loads will disagree, but we have.

Anyway, back on topic :cautious:

How on earth we managed to quite so brilliantly waste the majority of that Bale money beggars belief. It was like we put it all on Red AND black and the ball landed on Green 0!!!

It is both quite shocking and embarrassing what we did that summer. In fact I don't think
Last year was much better. Buying a load of squad players! The only thing that has prevented this window from being like last year is the fact we have offloaded so much shite!

Fingers crossed we pull a couple of blinders the next 2 week and actually buy some first team players
