theres a lot here i disagree with

Firstly we SHOULD be pushing to sign the best players, not the left-overs.

“Thry paid stupid money” Yes but they got the player they needed. Not Plan E.

Secondly the earlier we do it, the more preperation they, and the team have before the season starts.

Currently we are operating a frugal transfer model which (in my opinion) protects ENICs investment, it does NOT support Tottenhams best interests in term of success on the pitch.

But supports the success of Tottenham's best interest in terms of stability to operate within its means, and not end up like Leeds did and Villa are now, as well as paying for a new stadium. Can't have everything !

As far as I can see from ITK info alot of the players we want still haven't moved, so find this "plan E" talk a bit silly.

We should be signing the best players, I agree. But the best players that are suited to our style and not fitting a player in because he is good, but doesn't work for us.

There was ITK which said it's basically done and is now all down to AV with regards to the timing of it. It really wasn't that long ago!

What about the January transfer window itk which sent everyone into a complete frenzy. I don't remember who it was, but I do remember it went something like ' we( Levy) have done great business' which fairly quickly became 'but it may not happen until the summer but you just wait, its gong to be amaze balls( paraphrasing there.)
I'm not picking up on anything like this in the pipeline.

Interesting details but it pains me that Levy doesn't learn year after year that squeezing the extra out of each deal has cost us points for the last 6 or so seasons in the opening few games when we haven't been ready. I mean people can pretend that those extra pennies have been crucial but when we have a gaggle of players who have been pointless signings over the last 3 seasons then I think it's a fair criticism of this process.

Similarly, there’s a lot here which to be frank is fantasy football.

We are pushing to sign players identified by the coach, who knows how we operate, and what the budget is. We won’t be competing for every top player, because we can’t afford to. We can’t compete directly with the moneybags clubs, regardless of whether you think we should.

“They got the player they needed”. Singular. There is opportunity cost. Paying over the odds for player A means we can’t bid on or afford player B and player C who we also wanted. Someone yesterday suggested we spend £30m over the odds to get a player in early. That would keep Villa (for example) afloat. That’s an insane amount of money to throw away on a few weeks training (when World Cup stars wont actually be back anyway).

As for preparation, it depends on the player. We’ve seen examples quoted of Dele and Dier hitting the ground running, but also Trippier did an interview where he said he was told he’d be integrated into the team around Christmas. Once again meaning a few weeks of summer training isn’t going to cut it. Oh , and the Dele example? Pretty sure he was training with the club whilst on loan back at MK Dons, so took that year to integrate.

We operate a frugal policy which balances the investment with success on the pitch. Without some sort of success on the pitch, the investment lessens considerably. I don’t think it’s the best policy, but it works, and changing policies is a risk (see Villa, Leeds for high profile risks falling through).

We are not a moneybags football club, so why on earth do you think we should be acting like one?

Thanks Dov - always appreciate your whoring.

Let's put it into context.

You really want a certain type of house that's likely to cost you say £2m.

Realistically at this moment in time you can only afford the mortgage on a house that's £500k, although you could 'maybe' get some hefty bonus' in each year

Do you go balls to the wall, take a gamble that your job will hopefully pay you more and more each year, mortgage yourself to the hilt and hope for the best, because it's the house you want?

Do you fuck. You go for the one you can afford, you make money on it gradually and build yourself up to a level where that £2m house is a fairly risk free reality.

That's why we have to time the market and make sensible purchases that should help us get to that next level.

If I had a quid every time someone brought up the ridiculous example of Leeds as a reason for us not to spend money on players I could have bought uncle Joes yacht of him - we have just made record revenues and profits! DL is the best paid chairman in the league.

Ali Zs ITK promising - 9 deals. Let’s see. I’m checking out of here now until deadline day

Fingers crossed!
