Agree - now if we add de Ligt to that list of 3, then all of a sudden I think it's an incredibly productive transfer window, would you agree?

Productive yes, but I'm not sure 3 of those players are enough to make us proper title challengers

What kind of fee will we be looking at for Gomes? Got to be around the 20m Mark surely
More likely Euro or Pound.

I'd be happy with Gomes if Posh is genuinely excited to work with him.

I'm refusing to hold my breath for a big name.

If we sign Martial or Bale, there’ll be cosmic jizz monkeys everywhere. Even Gomes and Grealish will be bathed in the post-coital glow of love that enables humanity to aspire, albeit briefly, in the affairs of gods

The wife must have given you one Doc. Your dribbling verbally in what seems like post coital bliss. Either that or you just knocked one off while in the Khazi with an old stained copy of Tommy Lee’s best of Pamela Stephenson picking up the soap in the shower snaps.

I don't think Billy Connolly will be too impressed with that.

Interesting conundrum re the central midfielders in that the two likely players are polar opposites to what we already have albeit they’ll be departing. We need someone whom can pass the ball/be creative in central midfield but with the ‘likely’ targets there is a concern that neither of them will add any physicality (Dembele - bully the opposition) or energy in the form of say Sissoko (ability to quickly close down the opposition).

I know a couple of others have mentioned de Ligt but again with Hercs specifically referring to 2 CM and/or Martial/Martial-esque.... is this implying Toby and Rose are likely to stay?

It’s a strange window as we are both only 2-3 players away from kicking on but also 6-8 players away due to potential mass departures of the various deadwood and key players in Toby and Dembele.

I also think Trippier playing and doing very well at right wing back for England has had a positive effect on our transfer strategy in that pre window we were looking at multiple signings and now we’re only after CM x 2 and a game changing attacking player.

I appreciate the ITK especially when it refers to specific targets (positional) and I think it’s also a great way to stop the hissy fits when people playing guessing games based on ages and countries. We don’t need names, it’s just nice to know we’re targeting players in our areas of weakness.

I see this as a positive. Reducing the overall headcount, but hopefully increasing the general calibre and improving the balance. Furthermore, it creates opportunities for our better development/academy players to step into the gaps, which long term could have the secondary bonus of making us seem very attractive to young players of high potential.

The general theme from the ITK seems to be that the management know exactly what they want, and whilst some of the names may not set fans pulses racing, it's not a bad thing that the management are being decisive rather than scattergun approach of the current popular name player.

Assuming we bring in a CB (if Toby does indeed leave), two CM's to provide more creativity, and a genuine WF/CF who can provide a Kane alternative but also stay sharp with minutes on the park in another position, I think overall gives us significant better balance, without too much upheaval (5/6/7 signings) of the squad.

Agreed on a relatively small number of signings - we've tried to integrate a larger number of players in the past and struggled. Evolution rather than outright revolution will work better given our strong position.

Would be even better if any of them were any good rather than cheap-arse Moneyball signings

Moneyball signings worked pretty well for the Oakland A's...

Incidentally, Dele Alli was £5m, Eriksen £11m, Lloris £7.9m, Dier £4m, Trippier £3.5m, Rose £1m, Verts £9.5m, Bale £7m

Compared to Soldado £26m, Sissoko £30m, Darren Bent £20m, Aurier £20m (though still hoping he'll come good)

I think we have a much better record with 'cheap-arse Moneyball signings' than transfer-record-breaking signings, though I'm hoping Sanchez has broken that pattern.

Oakland A's didn't actually win anything...

No, but they responded to losing 3 of their best players to bigger teams by building a more efficient team, punching well above their weight, and competing with teams in far better financial situations.

They changed the game.
