Remember when everyone was nervous about things not being done before the world cup? This is why! Nothing is going to happen until the tournament is over and then we have 3 weeks to do it all. Marvelous!
Wait until we get wind of our overdraft being activated. That should set some pulses running.

Don't suppose you have next week's lottery numbers whilst you're at it? ;)

How do you know they haven’t been done?

Not sure we’d be chucking announcements out during the WC as it goes under the radar and is overshadowed by the huge spectacle...

Do you actually believe that? Genuine question... Seriously. We wont announce a signing as it would be over shadowed by the World cup. (n)

«The world cup being on at the same time ruined the whole Bale signing for me», says Dave Williams (41), who has now tore his Spurs season ticket in half.

«I support Leyton Orient now.»

Using the WC as an excuse for not signing players doesn't wash for me. It's been said a few times most of our targets aren't involved. The tumble weed blowing down Tottenham high road is deafening & with the Gooners buying, as are WHam & L'Pool , although Chelski can't because they haven't sorted out their manager & MU can't because we aren't selling to them. What our excuse is though is anyone's guess, although it's probably Levy's need to feel he's getting a deal, but it's hardly backing the best manager we've had in a good long while & whilst I accept some deals are likely to take longer than others, surely we should have had 1 possibly 2 in the door by now, if Levy was serious about helping Poch to build on the last 2 or 3 years.

Leicester have managed to secure the transfer of James Maddison from Norwich today. Championship player, not at the world cup, for £24m. It's really disconcerting that we haven't finalized the deal for Grealish from a club that has to sell within the next 10 days to make payroll. ITK all say its close, but if the easy deals are taking until July...

Moneyball signings worked pretty well for the Oakland A's...

Incidentally, Dele Alli was £5m, Eriksen £11m, Lloris £7.9m, Dier £4m, Trippier £3.5m, Rose £1m, Verts £9.5m, Bale £7m

Compared to Soldado £26m, Sissoko £30m, Darren Bent £20m, Aurier £20m (though still hoping he'll come good)

I think we have a much better record with 'cheap-arse Moneyball signings' than transfer-record-breaking signings, though I'm hoping Sanchez has broken that pattern.

Would argue the only true "Moneyball" signing there is Trippier.

We’ve been told on here that Dele and Eriksen have signed new contracts. Why haven’t we announced them yet? New kit pictures? This is a genuine question too.

I disagree with this statement because Dele, Dier, Bale, Rose were complete risk v. reward investments but what's more important is the profile of player rather than the fee. Our higher priced players mentioned were later in their development. Davinson Sanchez, potentially Jack Grealish, potentially Anthony Martial - those are the right sort of signings. Investing in quality with the ability to be developed even more. That's what the top list of lower fee players had that the bottom list of higher fee players did not. If you pay 42m for Sanchez, you're buying a player that has showed incredible attributes and quality PLUS in 5 years could be 80/90m

In reading this thread you'd think it was the day before the window closes with all the overreactions taking place. There are 50 days left which is more than enough time to get our guys.

Perhaps they have agreed but not signed. Im guessing. For yrs I've seen posters give reasons of that nature... Then i see other clubs announce signings. Case in point is Arsenal and Leicester with their new signings.

I dont see how the world cup would impact a signing announcement.

I've been under the impression that we might not have any PR on signings until the kit is revealed, which afaik is not yet known. So, on that basis, I take it that we might have agreed deals, but not announced them.

You put the reason why we haven't signed Grealish yet in your post! If they have to sell within the next ten days they will get increasingly more desperate as that time period winds down. If we just met their current asking price a lot of you would freak out and complain that we overpaid. In other words, yknow, exactly what itk has said.
