Typical football fan and they wonder why clubs get into financial trouble.

With the present TV money, it's hard for a Premiership club to get into financial trouble...

I'm sure Joe Lewis will be chuffed that you're not a typical football fan but are looking out for him and his billions. When choosing between his bank balance and the White Hart Lane trophy cabinet, you have made the sensible choice.

I personally can't wait for the club to be taken over by people who actually want to win things instead of lining their pockets at the club's expense...
If u really think there's a load of billionaires queuing up to fritter away their fortunes with no return then you're quite honestly living in fucking cuckoo land.

Football, especially in England, is becoming a playground for the ridiculously rich and venture capitalists. There's not a whole lot of 'frittering' going on when established clubs are taken over.

You clearly know your stuff, so who else is in this queue ?

Any billionaire who's not a misantropist recluse hiding in the Bahamas but wants to use his dosh to grab a place in the premiership limelights will do nicely... Although I have to admit we have seen a fair share of clowns as owners of some of the other clubs. We don't want one of those, I grant you...

Then why are they not spending some of these billions on getting us to the title??

The truth is Lewis and Levy are milking Spurs for every penny, making the club pay for a 500m asset out of the operational in- and outgoings. When it's finished the value of their shares will have increased enormously without it having cost them a penny, and they'll happily pocket the windfall. Lewis and Levy are Spurs fans, but only because of what the club is doing for them financially.

I personally can't wait for the club to be taken over by people who actually want to win things instead of lining their pockets at the club's expense...

so you would want to take a chance of doing a possible Leeds would you?

anyway great to hear that KGN might finally be done, when fit we need extra pace and stronger subs bench to bring on late in games

Tbf I'm not sure this rhetoric is valid anymore at the top level. Leeds and Portsmouth issues were last decade and people have been waiting for Chelsea and City to crash and burn which just isn't happening.

The PL is mega rich so clubs can afford to take the risk. I like the way we are run but I must admit I start to question when I see the likes of Palace paying £27m without batting an eyelid whether we have got it all right.

but they are only paying that out of desperation, if they get relegated they could be stuck with a player that won't want to be there, or might have to take a big hit. they also are not building a new stadium

Their stadium is made of wood, if they ever decide to change that do u really think they'd be able to spend like they are now?

Is this thread turning into a debate about how to run football clubs? Because the expertise on show is depressing.

We aren't Crystal Palace though are we? We have been one of the top 20 richest clubs in Europe consistently for a while now.

Anyway I'm not advocating crazy spending but I don't think we are right to be net spending every window if it leaves us short (like last season) or have to compromise with players we dont really want (Stambouli, N'Jie etc).

Where does it say Poch or the club doesn't want N'jie?

I think that's a good point. We don't ask for 150 million Man Utd style , just more than net spend. We are all assuming when stadium is built we start to spend, but what if we do an Arsenal and take ten years?

of them have been successful. Whilst there is a chance to hit the big time the odds are definitely not in our favour to do so.

We've been doing pretty well following a strategy of buying young unpolished players at reasonable prices. I don't see a reason to change. Spending money or making sure you have a net spend doesn't guarantee success. Fans don't seem to understand than teams like Everton and Crystal Palace are spending a lot of money on average players to try and catch us, which they won't. Once you get to our level we are never going to start competing with man Utd and man city for players so it's sensible to continue on the same path.

In regarding Trix's info: If the Kevin deal is going to be concluded soon, when will they announce it? I wonder where the likes of Chadli and Bentaleb will be shipped out to.

You mean like Abramovich, or the Sheiks @ Man City? They're real enough...

They bought their respective clubs for very different reasons. Nothing to do with them being passionate football fans.

The strategy of the last few years has worked well, but that doesn't work once you break into the top four. If you want to stay and compete at that level you need to not only buy young unpolished players but also buy a top quality player(s) that sends a message to our competitors and other top players that we mean business. This will help us keep our top players and also tempt others. None of us expect Levy to pay £80m but we should be able to pay £40m and/or the larger salary to really strengthen our first eleven.

We have strengthened the squad but not the first eleven. United, city and Chelsea have.
