No matter which way you look at it this signing makes sense. Should be value for an Englishman of his quality and age, can play in a couple of positions, room for him to get much better, wages shouldn't be too bad, no supposed interest from any mega rich clubs.

Barkley has bags of raw talent, just needs a bit more discipline and some mental improvements. We have four or five players who that description used to fit, and every one of them has improved substantially under Poch. I for one am quietly very excited for this.

Slow start? The season hasn't even started yet!

We have to start somewhere isn't it? When there are no signings at the start of the window people say come on the window only just opened. And now going into the preseason we are saying the season hasnt even started. When the season starts we are gonna say there are 2 weeks until the window closes. And finally we end up with sissoko on deadline day everyone is complaining.

Anyway, back to the ITK, I hope the news is true so that Barkley can settle easily into the squad by joining the lads for preseason. Won't believe it until I see igideji's post or the official announcement.

Dude, we're 17th.

SERIOUS RELEGATION CONCERNS!

:ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:

Anywho, I will be very pleased if we get Barkley, he's got bags of talent, and creates shed loads of chances. Him and Eriksen behind the likes of Dele, Kane and Son makes me drool.

Whilst I agree, I'm expecting him to be in the attacking 3 behind Kane.

Imagine once the fee is agreed it could move very quickly. Quite obvious we have been talking to the player and no doubt have personal terms sorted. Imagine medical could be the only thing slowing it down.

The ebb & flow of news makes this thread priceless

True, but the fact is if we get Barkley, who Poch apparently loves, at anything near that mooted 20+5m, then that's a great deal in the current market and another example of Levy targeting players running down their contract as a (hopefully) successful way of operating. File that next to Eriksen, C. If we don't get him, then it's a case of not getting our most precious manager what he wants, which can't be good, file that next to Stambouli, B.

If the 90k is correct then I can see some improved contracts for Toby, Christian, Eric and Jan this summer.

Good news if/when it happens.

Yeah, but you'd have Dele or Son making runs into the box, Harry being Harry, and Eriksen and Barkley causing havoc and creating chances.

I expect him and Eriksen to rotate a little too, and keep one and other fresh.

I know you are.

I'm highlighting your impatience.

HAHA! I'm not even remotely impatient. Shit, I've been one of the only fans on here telling all the knee jerkers to calm down.

I'm not gonna de-rail this thread with this discussion but I saw a stat somewhere saying that only once in the last 20 years (or something like that) have we not signed a single player before July 24th. Don't quote me on that cos I can't remember the dates but either way, there is no denying that we could've done a deal by now. I'm fine with it but I'd still like to see us strengthen before the games actually kick off in mid-august.

Earlier you get your transfer business done the better. Not for the benefit of fans but for the benefit of getting sorted and organised in pre-season training.

Sorry to highlight this post because there's been several, but before it becomes a 'thing' lets take it to the players thread.

His ability, how we'll use him and wether or not he'll move to London and continue stealing hub caps can all go there.

I meant as much to do with us supporters and our fickle nature when we hear a downbeat bit of ITK, then the scurry towards a good bit of ITK. I hold onto what trix intimated: it'll drag through the window re Barkley; I do believe we'll get him tho.
Maybe it's cos I'm nearly 50 (!) I've learned to accept things in life with a pinch of salt. Don't believe Levy's daft enough to not placate Poch with his favoured signings.

It's a big call saying it's going to be announced today. I would expect a media report saying we're 'closing in on a deal' or something similar before an official announcement.
