If money is the key to make you a happier person then so it is. I for myself have another view on life. Passion for what you do and the place where you do it (far away from friends and family or not) could be considered as well. Especially when you earn enough to buy whatever you want anyway. Personally I could earn more so I can relate to the topic and for me it is not even about 1k a week.

I understand this is how it works today, but it still shocks me that so much is just about money and more money...

As the market works I hope our club pays what is necessary to keep the core happy...

But it's not about different jobs. It's getting less money to do the same thing.

For say Danny Rose -- a 5 year deal at Spurs gets him roughly £16M. After tax let's say he's taking home £9M. Is that enough to look after him and his wife, children, parents, brothers and sisters, wife's family etc for the 50 or so years after he finishes playing, after which he has no idea if he'll earn any more money? Probably, yeah, if he's smart with it.

But if he moved to Man Utd to do the exact same job for a bigger club in front of bigger crowds with more chances to win tropihes, that number would double to £32M.

Sure, he likes Spurs a lot. But he looks round and sees players doing a worse job than him, but earning millions more.

Why on earth would he not push to leave for Man Utd?

All this doom and gloom and exactly the same shit was said last year and the year before and people cheered when we signed Sissoko :banghead:

Truth is we don't know what will happen this season and/or who we'll sign, we're lucky we have an inkling with ITK but salt people, remember salt and the fact we've improved ever since Pochettino has come in.....
But we're doomed!

Actually I predicted previously that there would be casualties. That's our method. Like it or not we will carry on selling players, which will in turn help us on our upward curve. Yep I appreciate that other teams are trying to do the same thing but they're not us and nor do they have our manager (or chairman) at the moment. Mind you I still think it's very fluid and the whole outlook could well change within the next couple of years.

Good post that. However, if that is where we are on transfers, why not increase wage budget to retain those we cant afford to replace and reduce the transfer budget?

I would be far more comfortable knowing our players are on a par with their peers and being paid what they deserve. Rather than neither spending on improving our team or paying the going rate of wages to our current squad.

Take the example of Kane. If we lost him because we wouldnt pay him £200k per week, we would end up replacing him with someone like Arnautovic...reportedly on £100k per werk at West Ham.

Levy is a schrewd and highly intelligent chap. I hope he knows what he is doing.

Agreed. At some point it will become a motivating factor for our players putting in that extra 5-10% on the training ground when they don't feel they are being properly valued which as Chelsea showed when they downed tools can be fatal and for a squad more reliant on the team and running through walls for Poch even moreso

My gut feeling is Levy will get us to the new stadium, hold onto as much of the squad as possible and sell when our value is at it's peak and let new owners come in and stump up he wages he doesn't feel are warranted...or he might surprise us and start paying out the additional commercial revenue from the stadium to the players

What he knows is if he wants to fill the new stadium he will need to keep the core of this team intact

Who says we can't ? Everyone here seems to forget that just like the other PL clubs we are also getting a huge increase in TV revenues. Yes we are building a stadium but it is funded with long term finance secured by season ticket sales not by us using other commercial revenue. Most importantly, we still haven't signed a stadium naming rights deal, if done correctly this should add a very material new revenue stream. ENIC own half the property around the High Road and are going to make a packet from the regeneration. There is money at Spurs, the only question is whether Daniel Levy and Joe Lewis want to spend it.
Yes exactly, why aren't we.

If we can but don't, and end up losing players as a result, that's for me is negligence.

Just a quick note.

A lot of actors have a long career, often getting better roles when they're older. Footballers don't get that opportunity, unless they have played for Liverpool, Man Utd, or Arsenal, then they get to be TV presenters.

This crazy market is the market. There's no getting away from it. Prices aren't going to go down unless FIFA change the rules on transfers. This is just the increased TV money going to players and agents, and the clubs trying to claw some of it for themselves.

I don't like it, but realistically if ENIC can't compete in this market then perhaps they shouldn't be in it. I am thankful for all the progress we have made on and off the field, but I want to witness some success as a fan and ST holder, and by success I mean major trophies.

Testicles in the frying pan stuff tonight.
We have about 6 weeks left before the window shuts. At minimum we need another RB and AM. If we are true kings of net spend, that's at least a 65 million budget. Should be at least two very promising players.

Totally agreed, atm though things are good, like really really good, best in my lifetime good but people are still losing their shit......I just don't get it. Maybe it's me who doesn't get it? I'm just really happy with the manager, squad and club currently, it's weird and feels wrong but things are good :)

The sweeping statement of 'if we don't win anything, players will want to leave' is a bit stupid really. If you want to make our team better to the point that trophies are a formality then we'd have to bring in some really top top players for a crazy money that will push the original players out of the team.
Let's go out and buy a world class LB, that'll stop Rose from wanting to look elswhere won't it. It's all about money and the environment/manager, winning things is just a by-product

He has in a way had this problem for a long time, but it used to only be in relation to strikers. He could still manage the transfer market for other positions, but the market for strikers was set apart from the rest. This year, the same crazy frenzy has spread to all positions, and we find our selves in a bit of a limbo I'm afraid, IMO.

Seems he's shit hot at expiring contracts and buy out clauses but kinda lost at genuine negotiations

makes no sense at all - same as last season, Rose , Davies and Verts if really necessary. Why is lb even worth mentioning?

I think it's inevitable we'll lose at least one of the first team each summer over the next few seasons, my only worry is multiple players pushing for a move in one summer

Obviously not ideal, but it's part of a transfer strategy of buying and selling at a higher price at least until the new stadium is up.

I think with careful targeting we will replace them. Wash my mouth out but if 2 or 3 of 'our stars' left all at once then hopefully it would be done in a planned manner, without a wobbly being thrown. If this is indeed the agreed plan then hopefully pieces should be put in place? I don't know as I'm not prive to the forward planning.
