It does feel like a huge amount to do in a very short period of time, but if there's a bit more money splashing around this time, and with a longer period to sell than to buy, it will be interesting to see if Levy actually does take the risk of buying before selling.

As ever I live in hope that we'll see some significant net-spend this window. As ever I look to the past and would therefore be surprised if that materialises.

I’d agree with all of that. Presumably our lack of net spend for the last decade has been an essential precursor to building the stadium.

What I’d really like to see this summer is bold spending (as Poch put it) on some real established quality. We have raised our wage ceiling, and we have CL football in a new world class stadium with a team featuring established world stars. I don’t see why we can’t attract one or two signings matching the quality of our better players that really mark us out as potential title contenders.

3 in is pretty much exactly what we need, so I'm pleased. Get in Grealish, a CM and a versatile forward and we're good to go with a quality, deep squad with no real weaknesses imo.

No need to replace Toby, assuming he’s off?

which bit are you classing as positive?
The six leaving are only positive if we replace with better
No Gomes or Barrios.......ok fine as long as we get others
We have money to spend and closing in on deals.........we have heard this sort of thing before. Levy maximising deals might mean they don't happen if he mucks other clubs about
Edwards in the last chance saloon..........only positive if he responds to this and applier himself

Rose staying is positive but i think we need more than that!

Was in response to the deals closing in, money to spend, 3 in part of the info.

Although at this point any ITK update that isn't clearly negative I'll take as a positive by default :ROFLMAO:

Yeah I saw. But if we do meet that minimum only, and sell 6 and bring in 3, then I don’t really see that that works.

Toby out, we need a CB.

Dembele out, we need a CM.

Llorente and Janssen out, we need a forward.

Presumably the other two are N’Koudou and Sissoko.

We know we are trying for Grealish, so if it’s just him and two others then that leaves us pretty short in one position.

I would be pretty surprised to see four high quality (and I do count Grealish as high quality) signings in what is now 3 weeks, but you never know.
Just to continue your theme of exits and consequences.....

Sissoko out, we need a magnum of champagne ;)

Lots of great itk but think there’s only 1 underlying fact. Whoever comes in has to be either first team already or threatening consistently. Buying any more fillers is utterly pointless.

Do you think the club intentionally buy "fillers"? It's easy to point out with hindsight players that didn't make the grade, but when they were bought at the time they were bought with the best intention to add value to the playing squad. It has been a prudent strategy to buy young players with high potential as this provides the right risk-reward balance, and allows to the players to develop together. But they would never bring in players that they believe won't be competing for first team place. Reality is we cannot afford the top tier players so we have to be more creative to find the best value

Thanks for the great itk today, guys. But I have my skepticism on a few of the bits said. 1st off, I’m really doubtful that we’ll be able to sell six players (even with the amount of time left) and considering doing business next week is probably not happening cause of the US tour. 2nd, if we were able to sell six players, we’d be extremely short of numbers if we only brought in 3. We’re already going to be struggling at the start of the year with World Cup players just getting back and sonny missing a month, but I feel like even though 4 of the 6 are role players, they still are important numbers to have throughout a busy season. That’s all, but as usual great stuff from the itk’s to keep me a little more optimistic about this depressing window.

Id be content with a few starlets coming in if we are able to shift obvious deadwood like Llorente, Janssen, Nkoudou and Sissoko and upgrade them whilst keeping Dembele and Toby. I think it will have been a successful window based on our hands being tied with the calamity of our window finishing earlier than others and both Mousa & Alderweirelds contacts tying our hands.

Get those 4 off your books and it gets you c£40m for the coffers and frees up around £215,000 in wages per week (over £11m in wages per year go on those 4. Incredible!)

Those 4 don't offer anything moving forward and if I saw some promising youngsters come in for the money we receive for them I'd be satisfied with that.

I can only see first teamers come in if we shift Toby & Mousa. If we're lucky we'll shift the other 4 taking up important space and buy two class acts with the fees and wages they generate

I may be wrong here but I don't think we need to sell all 6 to bring in 3?

Its one in one out isn't it?

So Toby goes, in comes a defender.
Dembele or Sissoko goes, in comes a midfielder.
etc

We were told it's not to do with financial reasons, more squad spaces. So if we sell three players in positions we are trying to sign players in then surely we won't need to sell a further three to make that happen? They can be sold at a later date to recoup money.

I'm expecting a couple to go out on the European deadline date tbh.

100%. Remember Poch’s cull when he first joined. We’ve recreated that issue on a smaller scale by acruing deadwood whilst trying too hard to find value. Another trimming and 2-3 quality additions is what’s needed.

One point I feel I should make is that we have a few fully fit members joining the squad this year already. Rose/Wanyama/Lucas/Winks/Foyth/Onomah/Lamela should be able to perform at a different level to last year and there are even spaces for the likes of TOB and Edwards if they perform. This improves the squad on its own and shouldn't be underestimated.

On another note, I expect the amount of information leaving the club to escalate tomorrow/Monday. That doesn't mean deals completed but it does mean you'll start to see some visibility.

People will be happier then.

CM the focus.

Exactly, Foyth & Lucas will be intergrated now & be like new signings

Cheers Rebrab. Interesting on CM - assuming it's not Grealish.

Hope Winks is fully fit, thought there was ITK that he's struggling mentally to over the injury at the moment and still doesn't feel able to play quite yet...

Thanks rebrab, appreciate the info.

How amazing would it be for Onomah to show that he can step up and become a key first team member.

There was a mental element but we are excellent at handling this and Winks has IMO one of the top mentalities in the squad. See Lamela for parallels.
