What happens if they're shit? Does your argument still stand?

I agree there is no guarantee of success but isn't paying £20m for a guy with one season in the EPL even riskier?

Also, if we've got this brilliant new scouting network then shouldn't we be trusting it?

The old argument: What happens if we take a risk vs what happens if we don't

Just look at the business Swansea and Southampton have done in recent years, by boxing smart. The idea that we are too big a club to do that is peddled out ('we're going for a higher calibre of player') but it's a nonsense.

My God...? What a meltdown. We've got 5-6 exiting young players in, 4th never realistic This year anyway, now we can keep on building a force with dele alli, kane etc...

Its all good!

Though I hoped for a striker and midfielder too...

And Lloris gone next summer | yep its all good

Also if we're so skint that we have to penny pinch, why didn't we pick up the likes of Ayew early in the window on a free?

There was value to be had this summer... We spent far too long chasing targets that at the end of the day, we just weren't willing to cough up for.

Levy all over.

LOL are some people really defending Levy and saying at least we have youth players coming in?

Are these the same people who said they would rather we give Veljkovic the DM spot than sign someone good? Some of you must work for the Spurs PR team lol

It's ok that we don't have back up for Kane, we can just play little Jimmy from the under 12's upfront, he is a youth player and meant to be an exciting prospect!

Yes, some of us are. That's what we wanted, right? A good academy? Something that could produce first team quality players?

Well we have some, why don't we use them?

Your "examples" are absolutely silly at best. Would I have liked a shiny new DM and CF? Yes. Do I think we have options in the squad that can perform there until we can bring in the *right* players? Yes.

Why that is so hard for some people to come to terms with boggles the mind. It's not like we're going to turn into Barcelona and challenge for the League overnight with those two signings. We'd be better, sure, but we'd go from 10 points out of 4th to 4 points out of 4th.

It is not the right moment to write posts to 'defend' Levy, but he is not the scout nor the coach and it seems clear that we have changed our transfer policy in that we will not buy player's Pochettino specifically does not want.

Wenger made it clear that if a club does not want to deal they won't. The end.

Levy does not want to pay fees so dramatically over the odds that only the likes of Man Utd, Chelsea and City can afford.

Players we may have targeted put in transfer requests and despite their clear desire to move, were not granted one.

If neither out manager not scouts identified viable alternatives that we could get / they wanted, what exactly were we supposed to do?

If nobody identified any viable alternatives then why are we paying them?

I'm not even mad about not signing Berahino, it is simply that we appear to have had no back up options. A team who wants to get top 4 and has this approach to the transfer market is embarrassing. We should be better than this by now.

if your going to head into meltdown mode at least give it another 3 to 4 epl matches 1st.

yes we as fans feel (we are not EPL managers) we have been let down. yep in many eyes we needed a DM, but lost our No.1 target to a CL team. Berahino £25m? only had 1 good season, like Kane. next season we can get him for nearer 15 when WBA get relegated
Are you kidding. We have 3 points and gaping holes in our squad. We don't even have a youth team striker to promote.

Ooooooooor we could play the two players we brought who have played competitive internationals in that position.

No ITK since lunchtime. That's petty unusual as well.

Although Trix did say something about keeping things quiet didn't he?

Berba was in Birmingham today (AVilla?) dont know what happened there, but as he is out of contract (I believe) transfer window rules don't apply. Worth a shot, IMO.

No no no, they're wing forwards. Which means they have to start out on the touchline before doing the bits that makes them a striker. They're really different roles. ;)

Oh stop it, you, with your logic! This is a kneejerk reaction thread!

People coming in here without paying attention to our window would think we sold our entire starting XI and brought in 15 Khumalos.

I know, right, we clearly have players who can do a job there. Kane is going to start up top every league game and N'Jie can play there in the EL. Berahino would have been quality to play alongside Kane but, well, maybe someone will step up.

I just don't understand some can be so angry and upset over a football club not signing a striker. Amazing

Anyone else hate West Brom now? Sound so small time with their constant statements.

Would be elated to see them go down and us take Berahino off them for peanuts.

No! why coz their chairman had the bollocks to stand up to a bigger team n not let there best player leave like we did wiv Berba Modric Bale Carrick etc
