I got all excited when I saw the SC ITK forum in bold showing that there was an unread thread. Jake leaving wasn't the sort of ITK I was after, especially since it wasn't ITK for very long as it was officially announced shortly afterwards!

£6m is good for an academy player though. Always liked Jake, a local lad who always gave his best. I really hope he does well with Hull and may yet prove to be a decent player. Not the required standard we need and had this been 10/15 years ago he may have worked his way into the squad.

Loved his quote after he scored in a friendly against Barca and the interviewer asked him what it was like to score against the best team in the world and he said he wouldn't know because he plays for the best team in the world.

If we are to get 2 CB's then 1 of them may be English to fill the homegrown quota. My guess would be Dawson and Kaboul out with Caulker and one of Moreno and Lovren in.

Centre backs?

You'd presume we'd run with 4.

I guess most would want Dawson & Kaboul to move & two new guys in to replace but then there's still the option Vertonghen may want out & there's been a little noise around Chiriches.

Personally, I want to keep Chiriches & wait and see with the rest of them. I suspect knowing us, there will be less a strategy about who to keep/sell more a case of who is sellable or wanted elsewhere. Thing is you can see Kaboul staying as he's likely too injured to sell & Dawson could do the same he did when AVB came, sit on his hands & stay to try and compete. Then one or both of Verts & Chiriches go? Not good.

I think that Verts could be off, my guess is Verts and Kaboul off. Verts hasn't really enhanced his reputation this season nor will playing LB in Brazil help that but I imagine he'd still fetch enough to cover two reasonable priced incoming CB's, allowing we have a few mill from Livermore and JD sales already in the kitty I imagine we'd still have funds over even if we paid a premium for say Lovren or Garay as one of the two

Pretty much my line of thinking.
I'm guessing one CB to provide some natural LCB competition/cover for Vertonghen, then the second will depend on the situation regarding Kaboul/Dawson. If they both go, we'll need to go after a second signing. Caulker is a good shout given the rumoured buy back situation, and also the need to retain a level of home grown players.
Hector Moreno is being strongly linked, and there has been a bit of media coverage around Marcus Rojo, both LCB's. Caulker I believe is RCB, and Lovren. They're the four names that have been suggested in the media.
RCB Chriches & Caulker/Lovren. (Velkovic)
LCB Vertonghen & Moreno/Roho. (Fryers)
Personally I wouldn't be surprised if Kaboul stays instead though, but I think Dawson's days may be numbered.

You do realise you do not have to be English or British to fill the home grown quota don't you?

If 1 or 2 are incoming, then 1 or 2 must be outgoing. Kaboom being the obvious one to go.

Our first signing should be a LB! This feels so similar to a few seasons ago when we could have progressed if we had just bought a striker (after Berba and Keane left) It was a position everyone knew we needed to fill but we didn't. Now that position is a LB and it seems like we're linked with every other position but a LB :(

To be fair we've been linked with Shaw. Moreno, Rojo, Marcelo, Nagatomo, Blind, Ben Davies and Bertrand in recent weeks and we have actually added no one in either position

It doesn't really matter much to me what order we buy players we need as long as we get them and I wouldn't want us missing the opportunity to add a CB we want where a deal can be done simply to sign a LB first.

Obviously it would be nice to tie up all the players we want as soon as possible but invariably some will take longer than others
