For whatever reason I don't know, but my trail of thought in the "Plan B" (for want of a better phrase) striker has led me to a question I've never actually thought about before. Not sure if this is the kind of thing @Trix or @JJetset would know the answer to...

Is there an actual transfer list?

You have to assume so and that perhaps that's how the Stambouli transfer (to us) came about, when it became clear Schneiderlin was not going to sold to us. I assume (big assumption) that we actively pursue a number of deals (in and out) with a preference. If one falls through we don't then start a new negotiation with a new club with little time left - we've probably already made our enquiries etc.

Apart from the very few random 'real' last minute type deals (like Rafa) that perhaps become a possibility really late on, I guess Levy, Baldini, Mitchell (and Pochettino to ok them) have a list they work down.

But then I have no idea and this is entire conjecture and I could be completely wrong. Just seems logical.

If I'm Everton I'm holding on until deadline day and trying to get him for something like £2m to make up for the
big wages.

By freezing him out we have no hand to play.

Not that simple mate, sometimes even in football money has to take a backseat to doing the right thing. I honestly think Ade has more chance of playing for us again than Lennon does, and that really is saying something.

Oh yeah I'm not saying we should play him to get a few more quid, just expect him to go out deadline day and no sooner, for a low fee or loan.

Look I am not here to defend Levy(he's made plenty of mistakes) but the stock answer to every player who doesn't sign seems to be "Levy wouldn't pay it." Which in a lot of cases just isn't the reason at all.

@Archibald&Crooks - one for the opener mate.

You really need to get a grip with reality. Don't you think we would sign these players now if we could? Do really believe Levy and co purposely leave it until last minute? Its out of their hands. Offering 100 million for a player who does not want to come or are waiting for a better offer wont make them come any quicker. The sooner you (and others} accept that Spurs is not the be all and end all to others, the sooner you will accept our position in the footballing food chain.

Chill out fella, I know exactly where we are in the food chain and I don't expect us to be spending 100m on a player. The itk's have stated that SB is happy to come, so we could have had this done and dusted by now.

Again you have shown that you have missed the point.

Which lets be honest is fuck all. Look I am not here to defend Levy(he's made plenty of mistakes) but the stock answer to every player who doesn't sign seems to be "Levy wouldn't pay it." Which in a lot of cases just isn't the reason at all.

I have been saying for months Lennon would be very difficult to shift. At his age, with his issues and wage demands, he is a risk for any club to take on.
So do we know the actual reason that Martial and Werner didn't sign with us after Supposed to being very close?

Clearly, please explain it to me

The selling club will hold on to their asset as long as they can to try and eek as much value out of it as possible. The Chairman's statement was a come and get me plea to the oligarchs and the sheikhs. They will eventually sell to us when they see that there are no better offers out there.

Until then, unless we offer their inflated valuation of the player, we're stuck in a stalemate. I have no doubt this will resolve itself in our favour. We get our player they get a reasonable fee - and I don't think I'd want it any other way.
