Guys.., Any of youcomplaining about how the quoted "£28 million for Sessengnon" is too expensive needs to calm your tits.

I never understood why fans get so caught up in the spending of their club. We're still about £25 million in the green this transfer window, we have the TV money to factor in & finally Daniel Levy is a fucking billionaire. If the man slightly overpays for a player, the club is hardly going to file bankruptcy or anything.

Also, regarding Sessengnon, the lad's what, 17? There is almost no way that we wouldn't he able to sell him on for a profit unless he turns out to be as shit as Sissoko or something *shudders*. Of course, if he turns out to be the amazing player he may well turn out to be, £28 million will look like a steal anyway.

Even if he is on the slightly expensive side, there's almost no way we can come out with a loss from this transfer, especially if inflation continues at it's current trend.

(Also as someone mentioned earlier, if we are giving away this amount of cash, I'm more than happy Fulham is the club we'll give it to)

Nobody here's worried about the club's solvency or Joe Lewis' bank account. But it's still a valid concern to question the amount spent on players because for a club like Spurs (as opposed to, say, Man City) it directly affects the amount that can be spent on other players. £28m spent on Sessegnon, for example, is £28m that wont go towards a more urgently needed pacey wing-forward that's we may end up not getting as a result. £28m spent on Sessegnon as opposed to, say, £15m, represents £13m we can't spend on another quality back-up or youth prospect, or a bump in players' wages. Figures matter, & it's not irrational for fans of a club like ours to be concerned that the club has overspent on transfers.

We can't have it both ways. Most of you were slitting your wrists, bemoaning the fact that we were not buying anyone earlier in the transfer window, calling for Levi to spend etc. Now the club decides to get players now you are moaning about the spending. Just cannot win

Was there some budget itk that I missed? Are we broke now and can only pay players in chips and signed Chirpie photos?

Except you can win; you don't overspend on on players and you make sure you don't start the new season weaker than you finished the last one, it's not that hard.

And for the record I was not one of the ones moaning about not buying anyone. I'm just making the point as to why worrying about whether the club is overpaying is be a valid concern for fans of a club like ours. And I don't think that concern disqualifies you from being able to simultaneously criticise the club for having begun the season without a senior fit right back due to a lack of signings.

We are paying £28M for Sessegnon (hopefully :cautious:) because it is obvious to anyone that has actually watched him play that he is a massive talent. If he was 4 years older and had had one successful season in some foreign league half the people who are whining about overpaying for some 17 year old from Fulham would be creaming themselves with excitement .

Sessegnon and Sanchez are spectacular upgrades in the level of talent we are investing in. They are not gambles anymore than Modric was a gamble. By comparison Bale and Delle were cheap punts we got lucky with but RS and DS are players who's enormous potential is no secret. We should be delighted, not bellyaching.

Joe Lewis has a net worth of 5.6billionUSD as of February 2017.

Maybe he's gonna be Levy's sugar daddy.

I think if all our targets are available, we'd get them.

I don't know if it's ITK persay, but a couple of days ago in the RS thread, Hercules answered a question a few of us had about two separate budgets. One for young prospects and one for first team players. Not sure which one the money for RS is coming from, but there was no concern about financial issues coming up. Hercules is known to be ITK so I take his word for it.

Edit: it was in the Pape Diop thread. My apologies.

One drink doesn't make you an alky, even if followed by a few more... Levy is still Levy: chances are we won't have to worry about cash burning a hole in his pocket. Save your worry for when over-spending is actually a problem

What he said, or clarified, is that there is a 1st team budget and a development squad budget, and that they are are sole and separate.

THFC is a financially stable club, and there is money to spend on THE RIGHT PLAYERS. I am not concerned about our perceived unwillingness to spend money. Having followed this club for well over 50 years, and being a third generation THFC supporter, I finally feel we are getting close to getting back to being the club that set the standard in this game.

We don't even know how the deal is structured at the moment either. It could be £20m spread over five years and then another £8m if certain clauses are met such as number of goals scored, number of appearances, winning the title or reaching the champions league knockout stage. If we end up paying the full £28m Uber those circumstances he'll be an absolute bargain.
