Going from the beginning of the window (things have changed, money will be spent, Poch being backed) to desperately trying to find someone to take our world class defender at a cut price whilst half heartedly courting a £70m squad player...gotta love life as a Spurs fan.

The info on announcements next week really sounds like contracts. Which were probably agreed months ago, but for PR reasons waited until now. I know its not over yet and we have time, but really hard to not worry how this season will unfold. Especially being a statement year with the new stadium.
Probably the contract announcements were planned for now to ease the frustration over lack of new signing announcements...club thinks we are stupid!

Zaha would be a good signing and add something different to the squad. He played as a striker in parts of last season too so would add a good rotation option for Kane.

That being said...if our two options were Martial and Zaha and we knew our budget would be tight then the question has to be asked about our scouting department. There must be alternatives in Germany, Spain or Italy. Yes they have risks attached as they come from abroad but also likely cheaper.

We cant speak too soon but with a few weeks to go, its looking like same old spurs.

If Poch doesnt get what he wants this summer, he wont fall for it again next summer and will likely be off at the end of the season.

So Levy needs to step it up.
This exactly, we're going for players that we know are to obvious. Surely there are alternatives elsewhere outside of the prem. There are players with a higher ceiling than Zaha there.

Oh well, we will live to regret it when Poch leaves and we scramble around for a second rate manager and drop back into Europa League footie! Levy needs to play this very carefully.

He just needs to make sure that by hook or by crook, he secures Zaha if that's the one Pochettino really wants and Grealish who I honestly think will become a star for us.

One things for sure, Levy better not be on fucking holiday at the moment!

I think we might see an untold level of meltdown if thread if this proposed Villa takeover goes through and they keep Grealish. I might even have to dust off the old pitchfork!

At the end of the season the only question Levy should have asked of Poch:

Who do we need to sign in order to catch/match City?

Instead we seem intent on hoping to achieve top 4 at best.

The others have all improved their first 11 - we have added jack.

I genuinely always laugh at people who say “just spend the money and get the player”, because it’s fairly obvious that real life isn’t like Football Manager unless you’re being bankrolled by oil money.

However, if the above is the case, Levy needs to do it in this instance.

If Pochettino really has signed his new deal based on such promises, it will cost Levy a lot more in the long run if he does not fulfil them this time IMO.
Really all depends what the promises were. Some things are simply unachievable. Even Poch would understand that. Levy could not have made definitive promises.

Just a thought, go to the list of player sthreads that we have been linked with and are apparently interested in, how many of them have actually gone anywhere else yet? not sure any have.

Thanks for the update Herc, although it does sound very worrying.

If Levy fails to deliver anything of real substance to support Poch by the end of the transfer window, we can seriously start planning protests for after the Fulham game. We will not go through the same as what happened at the Emptycrates - and they won some trophies beforehand to sweeten things a little!

Over to you, Daniel..

The frank honesty by Herc is obviously much appreciated by pretty much everyone in here. However you get the feeling that a Chernobyl-scale meltdown is imminent...

PL managers are not dissimilar to players in that a drop off of 5% or 10% in application can doom them. So MP is not belly happy, he can't muster the same ferocity even if wanted to, the players sense it, the results go south... it can all happen very quickly

Thanks as always Hercules
Looking back, most of the original optimism stemmed from before/around the time Poch signed a new contract. You start to feel like Poch got played by Levy. Really hope I'm wrong, we'll find out over the next couple of weeks.

Could end up with a Conte situation if we are not careful.

My joke of Levy sticking with Lamela and Moura after smashing Southend is looking to be more of a prediction.

The lack of perceived intent is what is so disheartening about all of this. We may all have our own take on each footballer, but from a fans (outsiders) perspective it feels like the all too familiar in seasons past when Spurs were striving to compete. Here we are, right in amongst it all and we're having the same type of debates as 3, 4, 5 seasons ago.

We haven't even added Jack yet!

Well, the TW does at least shut before the season begins, so anyone we do get in is at least before the season starts, but as per usual we are leaving it late. in fact this is late even by our own standards.

Let's hope for some positive news sometime between Monday and Wednesday then eh, as per Herc's ITK (thanks again!).

I’ll be honest and say yet again that centre midfield needs to be the priority. I was happy when Rebrab said yesterday that this was/is the priority but seems everyone is getting their knickers in a twist over a wing forward. Why? Has everyone forgot we signed Lucas 6 months ago? Dembele can’t cope with another long premier league season, Dier and Wanyama are destroyers by trade and do not have the technical ability nor brain to unlock defences time and time again then you have Winks. This is nowhere near enough. If the plan is to play a different formation then perhaps fair enough but for me, someone who can dictate tempo and move between the lines with fluidity like Eriksen is key.

Crickey this is looking bleak. No Martial. No mystery overseas player. And Zaha very unlikely. I'm a natural optimist, but this looks like it's going to be a disastrous window.

Why? Its debatable whether either improve our squad other then add quality in depth.
