I got Bale and Modric but arrived at that by using an anagram solver to get the following words:

"look at our son Matt, he's a Shepherd" =

look
heros
the
tournamet
asasphd
(which I presume is Welsh for Champions League)

Well Bale and Modric would surely be a dream.
But:
"on this double-cryptic" suggests using the first word "ruminate" together with a double phrase that follows.
That and "look at" suggests using the double of "our son Matt" and "Shepherd".
And it's no doubt just a quite remarkable coincidence that the letters "Ruminate our son Matt Shepherd" can be re-arranged to form "A hint on the dream spurs team".

Why is double cryptic hyphenated? It shouldn’t be. Or is it a subtract sign linked to the numeration anagram? Oh jeez...

Matthew 2:2

Saying, “Where is he who has been born king of the Jews? For we saw his star when it rose and have come to worship him.”

Not religious myself, so just Googled something to see what came up.

Grasping here, due to the word "rose" - but perhaps It's an update on Danny's future? His "star" has indeed risen since he came back from loan, and although he faced critisism for his comments, most of us do "worship" him as a player.

I’m hoping the biblical reference is to the return of the prodigal son, Bale.

Ruminate
= room in eight
= we currently have no one allocated squad number 8
= we re buying a central midfielder to take this spot?

Does a double crypitic mean its actually unencrypts itself?

so what they are saying is actually who we are getting.
