Ruminate on this double-cryptic, look at our son Matt, he's a Shepherd

2 parts...

Look at our Son
-Look at Sonny = Winger
Matt, he's a Shepherd
-Matthijs de Ligt is Matt. He's a a Shepherd meaning he's guiding someone with him.

Combining those, we're looking to do a double deal for De Ligt and Ziyech (winger who's been linked with a move away and is highly rated).

This also ties in with the Play it again, Sam cryptic as that's a phrase from Casablanca, which is set in Morocco (Ziyech is Moroccan)
Pretty sure its been said this cryptic has nothing to do with the others.

That fits too well, I can't see it being that complex.

Is it ... 4 teams per group, so 25th team would be group G (Belgium) and 32nd Group H (Columbia) with the current standings. Unsure if the cryptic would be for the standings as of now, seems pretty unlikely, but still, Belgium and Columbia, one defender looking to leave another possible coming in .... from these teams?

I like how because @tiger666 shared the Goat's cryptic and then posted a Bible quote he found which may or may not be related in any way we now have a series of guesses built on the assumption that the Bible quote = cryptic and which ignore the actual cryptic. (Not a knock on you tiger, cheers for your sharing and researching that)

It could be two unrelated cryptics as an update -

"Ruminate on this double-cryptic, look at our son Matt, he's a Shepherd"

'Ruminate on' also reworded can be 'a minor tune' as in, a minor update -

A minor tune, look at our Son, Matt he's a shepherd.

1) Look at our Son - Sonny contract negotiations/new deal?
2) Matt de Ligt deal, regained our interest?

These cryptics can be interpreted in hundreds of ways o_O

If you just use alphabetical order, the 32nd team would be Poland. Lewandowski it is.

There are a few parts of this that could be interpreted to mean Sergej Milinkovic-Savic.

The etymology of 'Sergej' is Latin, and in Latin it apparently means shepherd (as well as protector, attendant).

'M' and 'S' are capitalised, seemingly giving them importance. Obviously they provide the initials for Milinkovic-Savic. Also relating to his name is that 'double-cryptic' is hyphenated when it shouldn't be, perhaps referencing the hyphen in his surname.

Somewhat more tenuously (if the above isn't tenuous enough), and 'ruminate on' being established as an anagram for numeration, there are the same amount of letters after that anagram and before the hyphen (so between the end of 'on' and the hyphen) as there is in Milinkovic. After the hyphen and before the comma is obviously the word 'cryptic,' which clearly doesn't have the same number of letters as 'Savic,' but if you remove the number of letters in 'Savic' from 'cryptic,' perhaps interestingly it leaves two letters, 'ic' which both present at the end of both his family names.

How do you think the "Matt" part of the cryptic plays? Is it only for the M in M-S, or is it suggesting something different?

Bonus points for pointing us heathens towards De Ligt. Some men just want to watch the world burn :watching::cautious:

After the cabbage incident I really don't think the cryptics are as clever as some people assume. I think the "-" the "M" and the "S" are the keys to this one. My guess is that this cryptic points to us having an interest in Milinkovic-Savic. Doesn't mean we'll sign him, or even bid, but given that he looks set to be leaving Lazio it would be odd if we didn't have an interest/make an enquiry.

If it’s to do with the w/c then the 25th ranked team at the time of the draw was Sweden and the 32nd Senegal, that’s all I got

I doubt they would do a cryptic for just having interest in a player, I’m also sure one of the ITK’s said we have interest in him

The book you wrote about the code and the italian painter was also good.

It is you Dan, right?
