Just a general question about cryptics.........

.i think we have had 5 now this summer? Or maybe 4

And i believe we have not had the answer confirmed on any of them

Would it therefore be safe to assume that none of them are deals which are dead yet? if the player was definitely not coming we would have been told that a cryptic had related to them but not relevant now as not happening? Or am i wrong on this?

How do you think the "Matt" part of the cryptic plays? Is it only for the M in M-S, or is it suggesting something different?

Bonus points for pointing us heathens towards De Ligt. Some men just want to watch the world burn :watching::cautious:
Dunno. If what I guess is correct, and let's be honest, that's a massive 'if,' and the cryptic actually does reference two players or two events, a double cryptic, then perhaps 'look at our son Matt' refers to the second player or event. But I don't really know abut that bit.

I doubt they would do a cryptic for just having interest in a player, I’m also sure one of the ITK’s said we have interest in him

We've had a few cryptics this window and as yet no bids have been made. (I understand that the fee is often the last thing to be agreed.) Your right that interest has been mentioned, by Hercules I believe, but this could be a different ITK who doesn't want to be named. Maybe we've opened discussions with Lazio about how much they'd accept, or are considering doing so, or have sent a telegram to his agent or however that works these days.

The double-cryptic part is definitely key. It could just mean there's two parts, the "M-S" and Sergej = Shepherd bits

Go back into the archive a couple of days and A&C confirmed UB40 1 in 10 was expecting a signing within 10 days that did not happen. They do confirm them when they can even if confirmation means the itk did not pan out.

Ruminate on this double-cryptic, look at our son Matt, he's a Shepherd

He's a She (Pferd)

There's something here that is not right...

Matt 25:32

Gathered all the nation's = world cup

Team 25 is south Korea - look at out Son

Team 32 is Senegal - keita balde (but I don't know why) perhaps some other Senegal player?

If it’s a biblical reference it could be about the story of one sheep running from the flock of 100 sheep and the shepherd leaves 99 sheep to go after one, then returns to the flock with it on his shoulders. i.e. Toby was leaving Spurs but is now returning to be part of the team again

So a phonetic summary thus far:

"Ruminate" = room in eight
"look at our son" = look at arsene?
"Matt, he's" = Matthijs

Well Bale and Modric would surely be a dream.
But:
"on this double-cryptic" suggests using the first word "ruminate" together with a double phrase that follows.
That and "look at" suggests using the double of "our son Matt" and "Shepherd".
And it's no doubt just a quite remarkable coincidence that the letters "Ruminate our son Matt Shepherd" can be re-arranged to form "A hint on the dream spurs team".

There are a few parts of this that could be interpreted to mean Sergej Milinkovic-Savic.

The etymology of 'Sergej' is Latin, and in Latin it apparently means shepherd (as well as protector, attendant).

'M' and 'S' are capitalised, seemingly giving them importance. Obviously they provide the initials for Milinkovic-Savic. Also relating to his name is that 'double-cryptic' is hyphenated when it shouldn't be, perhaps referencing the hyphen in his surname.

Somewhat more tenuously (if the above isn't tenuous enough), and 'ruminate on' being established as an anagram for numeration, there are the same amount of letters after that anagram and before the hyphen (so between the end of 'on' and the hyphen) as there is in Milinkovic. After the hyphen and before the comma is obviously the word 'cryptic,' which clearly doesn't have the same number of letters as 'Savic,' but if you remove the number of letters in 'Savic' from 'cryptic,' perhaps interestingly it leaves two letters, 'ic' which both present at the end of both his family names.

That's a double cryptic.

Matthew and son is a single by Cat Stevens from 1966, full name Steven Demetre Georgiou, could this be a totally underwhelming cryptic about our very own Georgiou

I tend to agree with the Matt Shepherd = Milinkovic Savic shouts so far perhaps combined with 'room in eight' suggests a central midfielder therefore a double cryptic...
