Im all for developing youth and trying to be different but this feels like arrogance and oversight. Really disappointing that we arent learning how to properly become a big team. We cant operate like a mid table team within the transfer side of things and expect to win titles.

Poch just now "It's so clear. I am so open to looking to improve. I was open in the summer and I am open now, but the reality is the difficulty in bringing in someone who can help or improve us. We'll see what happens."

Fingers crossed the club and Poch can find 1-2 players they can all agree on by the end of the month.

So we’re hearing two things here:

1- Poch isn’t pushing for signings because he values the youth setup and the squad.

& 2- We have roughly 100m to spend, but we don’t want to splash it all on one attacking player, when we also need to buy a midfielder.

So which one is it? Is it both?

If Poch values the youth team, then we should be able to work out which positions in the youth team we are most confident in bringing through. We have Oliver Skipp breaking into the team. Great, then according to Poch’s ethos, we don’t really need a midfielder. But we still have 100 million to spend on players.

Do we have a player in the academy to add depth to our attack? If not, then surely that is what the 100 mill is there to address.

I’m confused as to what we really want.

So what's the excuse for the failure to spend 0 last summer when most prem clubs splashed the cash? Fulham 100m+?And we clearly needed reinforcements?

This isn't really the thread to discuss that in depth but Fulham are second bottom and Mitrovic is the only signing who looks half decent, splashing cash guarantees nothing mate.

I personally think we do need a player or two but if the ITK we're getting is saying Poch doesn't then I trust his judgement 100%.

Poch just said he's open to players. Just blew all the talk about he doesn't want anyone out the water.

Not really. He’s open to players is exactly what most ITKs are saying. They just need to be better than our first 11 and work within our budget.

No of course. But we do buy and we do spend. We also have to at some point start benefiting from the huge investment made in that training ground by bringing through a regular stream of players.

The Barca players made it because they were good enough though.

Winks, KWP and Skipp look ok, but we've not produced anything near that level of talent. Kane is the only top class player we've developed since King, it's why Poch is still playing the likes of Llorente and Sissoko.

Just having amazing facilities isn't enough. It's like the 'players will come for the stadium' argument - I don't buy it.

Trouble is our budget doesn’t stretch to players better than our first 11.
It’s going to be £50/60m plus a pop to get one of those now.

Throughout the thread the trend started to seem as if Poch didn't want players.
As I take it, Poch doesn't want players who DL offerred (?) to him, who could be available now/in summer, as he preffers to sticking to his own targets. That's a difference.

Did we though? We're 3rd, Fulham are bottom.

Has anyone said he doesn't want anyone?

That is how the theme turned last night after JJ and Herc kindly provided info.

Most assumed that this wasn't perhaps the case though, due to predetermined views of Levy et al, and that Poch probably wanted players that the Club wouln't go all out to get and were instead offering him unwanted targets. Thus he was refusing them.

In which case, I can't see it as Poch being the stumbling block. Which is how it is/was being presented.

The problem at the club is we are avoiding the possibility of failure. Completely ignoring it. Riding our luck. Shouldn't a smart businessman evaluate the obvious and possible risks to us and make a rational decision? So because we're in top 4 atm, we should just relax because it means we will be top 4 at the end of the season? A lot could change.

I agree. If the opportunity to strengthen is there then we should do it.
But to put it in perspective, I would say that Pocj probably feels there is more guarantee from a player he trusts and promotes from within than spending big bucks on an unknown quantity, potentially from another league, who needs to come in, get up to speed fitness wise, and learn Poch's way.
Anyone signed in January is in Poch's plans for the following season - e.g. Moura.

I hate hearing 'ahead of schedule' nonsense, if you're ahead of schedule, why not use that as a motivator instead of an excuse to just sit down and wait till we are 'on schedule'. Being ahead of schedule shows major improvement and ambition whereby many benefits would come with it - CL, trophies, exciting players.

Therefore, for this club in particular, being ahead of schedule is actually our weakness because it could mean we miss out on a bright future and the 'Golden Era' will die.

Because a large part of that schedule is the stadium, and the extra revenue that will bring?

I think it’s really positive that Pochettino wants to use academy players to fill squad gaps and save money to bring in players hat will improve us as it’s the right way forward.

The problems will occur when we make decisions such as saying we need a CM so we shouldn’t spend 70% of our transfer budget on an available player in Pochettino’s buy them category.
