Does anyone actually believe Poch doesn't want to sign ANYONE and instead solely use youth?

Poch has said multiple times himself that we will bring a player in if they tick multiple boxes, both on and off the pitch. They have to have a personality that will fit in with the ethos of the squad and the club, while also having the required quality to improve the first team. If those are not available for whatever reason, then Poch believes in the youth coming through.

Poch and Spurs are WELL passed the days of bringing in any old player just to fill the numbers. If you look at the squad list, we are actually pretty full, but cannot shift the likes of Janssen. Levy and Poch quite clearly do not want another set of players they can't shift.

Trouble is our budget doesn’t stretch to players better than our first 11.
It’s going to be £50/60m plus a pop to get one of those now.
Wh do we need players better than our first 11 ? We need players better than our second 11 and in my opinion that should be pretty easy to do. Just look at hypothetical sales values for those players and you see that it really wouldn't cost the earth to do better than them.

How are Liverpool doing? ;)

So what we can take from that is it's only worth spending if it improves the side. Hence why Poch is only interested in players he believes will do that.

Are you seriously telling us that not one of Poch's choices is available for the £100m we have available? He must be some player or they are more expensive than £100m?

I get the youth but his failure to use KWP when trippier is struggling makes me wonder.

My point though is that they could have bought nobody but instead they identified their targets, went for it and paid the money and are now are reaping the rewards. We identify targets and then seemingly stop there.

Liverpool aren't building a new stadium. They have more money to spend on transfers than we do.

Our model is very simple:

1) use the academy to bring through the good to very good players on a regular basis. Now and again we may get lucky and get an excellent or world class player (Kane being the example here)

2) use the funds to sign only players who are deemed in the bracket of Excellent (with world class potential). We can not afford ready made world class players.

3) use the rest of the funds to sign promising players to join the youth team. Like we wanted Sancho last year... although he seems like he was ready for first team immediately.

Personally, I’m happy with this model. We just need to ensure we are implementing it correctly.

Not sure we are yet.

It's actually hilarious reading the outrage that Poch would rather just utilise the squad than sign players he doesn't believe are good enough. I mean, how dare our manager try and promote youth and get through an injury crisis by using his coaching ability. What an absolute fraud he is.

Yet we wont spend on Werner as he is seen as too expensive. Either you spend the money and get the players or you dont. Can't compare us to Liverpool as they have gone for it while we just watch

Liverpool had/have money to spend because they consistently sell their best players for big money. Would you like us to do the same ?

Not really. He’s open to players is exactly what most ITKs are saying. They just need to be better than our first 11 and work within our budget.

Appreciate it’s difficult to find players better than our first 11 but what about inferior squad players such as Llorente and N’Koudou not to mention players we’ve sold like Dembele and permacrocks like Wanyama? Admittedly we can’t afford a Man City type squad of 22 world class stars but there must be players out there that can contribute a bit more than those mentioned above.

Personally, i think its a fucking disgrace that Harry was free....

The facetiousness from those desperate to bury their heads in the sand is slightly nauseating. Let’s see how much you lot are sneering and guffawing to one another if we go into the new stadium next year without champions league football, Eriksen, Toby, Dembele and whoever else.

Just because you are happy to live in a dream world where nothing is going wrong - it doesn’t mean you’re a better fan than those of us who are capable of critiquing without rose-tinted specs on.

We all want success for the club, but within this discussion one has to accept that we don't know a fraction as much as we think we do. So, maybe some people are just happy to go with the information at hand - from the ITKs (hence visiting this thread) and Poch himself - rather than get irate about "ifs" and assumptions.

We have players that, for whatever reason, we can't get rid of who take up squad places (not including Jannsen in this as he doesn't have a squad number).
So, if we buy out the contracts of the players who we want to leave, as they're not in Poch's plans, to make room for others in the squad how do we pay for the players we need to sign on? These players need to go before we can buy. They are being paid, not contributing and are just a drain on our finances.
I can fully understand any reticence in buying less than top quality but, unless we can return to buying young potentials, we seem to be stuck in a depressing loop.

Whoop the absolute melt down people are having. Poch said something the other week about our fan base that we should really listen too. ‘We believe, but don’t really believe’.

I love the fact we promote youth, I fact I think pochs biggest mistake to date is getting Aurier in and not giving kwp the shirt.

We should exciting about winks, Skipp and kwp. Fans need to believe in the project poch deserves it.

I agree - but there’s still no need for the shitty attitudes and attempted derision from those who are happy with the status quo.

Is it really knee-jerk considering how often it appears the club has failed in the market though? I can't honestly believe that he's happy with the state of the squad currently, it makes no sense.

The only thing I can think is he's reluctant to get someone in this window as they would have to hit the ground running and that's always a risk...or the targets he's been given that are attainable aren't at the level he'd like.
