That scene in 127hrs where James Franco has his arm trapped under a boulder and on the fifth day he goes mad, starts hallucinating and mumbling nonsense. That is the cinematical equivalent of this thread. I fear that if JJ doesn't ride over the horizon soon people will start drinking their own piss.

I am gob smacked how so many can disagree with me that we need more than 2 signings. Walker-Sold, Sissoko-Going?, Son-Injured, Rose-Injured. That is a depleted squad already, and against this 'disagree' we need less than 3. Logic and common sense eludes me.

Never got the mentality that you should buy to cover injuries - that's why you have a squad for. Fair enough if you have a player who has a career threatening injury but when it's a player who will only be out a few months it's ridiculous to spend tens of millions to cover for them.

Our squad is not strong enough. This is something the manager expressed on many occasions. We lack that player with something a little different, like a Mane type, but not the price. We are split on Trips being the replacement for Walker. We are split if VJ will be that striker that can cover Kane. Alli is suspended for a few games in CL.

There are just too many 'ifs' to believe we can enter a full season with say 2 new additions.

Eh? You mentioned we had to buy reinforcements to specifically cover for Rose and Son - this is where I disagreed with you. Adding different players that give the squad qualities that it lacks is a different debate entirely and not one for this thread.

I agree not a debate for this thread.

I don't mind not making big signings. I'd be fine with a couple of young players with potential. Maybe a RB to replace Walker and rotate with Trippier and one other. What I am pretty frustrated about is that for the 921st year in a row we will not do our business in time for the players to be ready for the start of the season. Even after getting burned with doing last second deals at horrible prices, we still do it. As if Sissoko would have been 40m if we signed him in July.

By that logic Sissoko will then be a raring success for us this season, as he will have had a full season of football and a preseason this time round???

Personally i think that any key first teamers we bring in need to be in for preseason, otherwise that's too much lost time in training for someone to catch-up on and for the rest of the team to then have to adapt to.

However when it comes to squad players, who let's face it are going to most likely be on the bench for the majority of the first few weeks of the new season, i think this is much less of an issue.

Frankly we are not currently looking for any new first team players. I also don't see that we're looking for a rotation striker that would come on for Kane early on in the season, as we have Son and midfield options to allow a change in formation to cover.

In terms of midfielders, perhaps there is the need for a creative/attacking midfielder who would get a good amount of early rotation.

Defensively the only real worry now is RB rotation for Trippier.

Outside of this we don't NEED any new players and of the two or three we do need to bring in none of them are going to be expected to play a game within the first few weeks. So really don't see a major issue with players needing to be brought in prior to pre season.

If anything this summer, holding out to the end of the window when there may be some last minute moves and bargains around as teams are struggling to offload players in order to trim squad sizes of get some cash in to ensure their own priority targets can be signed, is the right way to go for us.
