I have no issue with us trying for Maguire, he is a pretty solid CB. Not the most electrifying signing in history but a solid one that would add depth.

I would think it strange that Maguire would jump from being a guaranteed starter every week at Leicester to being a rotational player for us especially since he is coming off a good WC. Would think his agents would be looking for a nice big pay raise while maintaining his consistent play time.

If we sign Maguire (don't think we will) then it would surely mean us reverting back to a back three again. As you say there's no way he would come in as a rotating option.

Won’t be reverting back to a 3 wingbacks would mean little game time for son and Lucas I wouldn’t rule out trippier being used as a midfielder in certain situations think he has the ability to play that role while taking corner and free kick duty off eriksen thankfully

Does seem an odd link for what we need. A young back up for Kane and a midfield maestro and maybe upgrade on Aurier is all we want. Perhaps Foyth isn't living up to his potential?

Just a quick message of respect to the ITKs during this lousy news weekend. Most of us fans on this site can dip in and out of this. I suspect the active ITKs have far more of a rollercoaster ride than us with an element of pressure to feed the neurotic masses such as ourselves when things are quiet or to pass on the bad news and face a bit of a back lash.

So cheers for keeping us updated as best you can.

I am sure there was a post on here weeks ago (SC) suggesting a deal was already in place for McGuire. *I now fully expect to be shot by both sides.

Seems like a scattergun approach this window. Could be anyone or nobody.

I made a fairly detailed post a few weeks ago explaining how missing one player could change our stance on others we are interested in.

Just for example sake lets say we wanted Grealish, Zaha and Deligt as our main targets at the start of the window. Suddenly Zaha is no longer possible. It might not be the case that we move for the next player in that WF position because we need 2 of the three to be home grown players. Now do we continue to look for another home grown player that plays as a WF even though the standard is a significant drop or do we move to what we feel is the next best HG player on the list which happens to be a CB and that means we can then look abroad to fill the WF slot with better quality.

It's rarely jus t about buying in any old player just because they are good. During a transfer window you have to fill the deficiencies of the squad, and sometimes there will need to be trade off's to do so.

Again that was just an example.

This window is mirroring many recent ones in which the ITKs are very bullish and we all get excited but there is a gradual drop off in expectation. Then there is a final flurry of players arriving just as the window closes which placates the angry fans.

In the last couple of seasons these final day players have been Nkoudou, Sissoko, Llorente, Moura and Aurier. With the possible exception of Moura I think these are all players we regret buying. They are certainly contributing to our current difficulties by clogging up our squad.

My fear is that "as a dog returns to his vomit, so a fool repeats his folly" and we end up with Andre Gomes or some other Carlos Kickaballs their clubs are desperate to offload.

no just getting harder to get players that know they might have to start on the bench, and then to try and buy definite starters which looking at our strongest 1st XI will need to be top table which we just can't stretch (my onions). we need a stronger 25 to cover injuries/rest for 1st teamers, and to be able to at least push for a domestic. to finish above Man C we would need them to falter and not suffer with injuries

Cue the majority of people taking this as not an example:LOL:

Agreed - although by all accounts I don't think Andre Gomes would be a panic-buy...Poch seems to like him!

But does THIS change your mind??!!! ;);)

A last minute goal from Georges-Kevin Nkoudou condenmed a Brentford XI to a 2-1 defeat at Tottenham Hotspur's Training Ground on Saturday afternoon. The game looked destined for a draw after Neal Maupay cancelled out Fernando Llorente's first-half strike but Nkoudou struck in the dying second

Whether Poch likes him or not don't forget he popped up as a name on transfer deadline day last year, along with Llorente. It wreaks of another cast-off signing like Aurier IMO.

Probably best to continue this discussion in the player's thread :cautious:.

Thanks @Trix for the detailed explanation of some of the decision making process. I have to admit to being mystified by some decisions in the past and this makes things a lot clearer.
