Thanks @Trix for the detailed explanation of some of the decision making process. I have to admit to being mystified by some decisions in the past and this makes things a lot clearer.

Don't get me wrong it's not always the case. There have certainly been both opportunistic and panic buys in the past. Just pointing out it's not always as "scatter gun" as it appears.

If true this is exactly what the price should be. If Villa really believe he's the next best thing and that's why they were holding out, not just to mug us off because of their desperation this is what they should be agreeing to, £25m up front tops nothing more.

Happy to hear the trickling of news regarding Grealish. Hopefully this one can finally get done and we can all settle down a bit with what's coming next transfer wise and start looking forward to our truly exciting future in our juggernaut new stadium as of about 6-8 weeks time

This window is mirroring many recent ones in which the ITKs are very bullish and we all get excited but there is a gradual drop off in expectation. Then there is a final flurry of players arriving just as the window closes which placates the angry fans.

In the last couple of seasons these final day players have been Nkoudou, Sissoko, Llorente, Moura and Aurier. With the possible exception of Moura I think these are all players we regret buying. They are certainly contributing to our current difficulties by clogging up our squad.

My fear is that "as a dog returns to his vomit, so a fool repeats his folly" and we end up with Andre Gomes or some other Carlos Kickaballs their clubs are desperate to offload.

Aurier and nkoudou were hardly last minute panic buys. There was word that nkoudou was laid up in a hotel in London waiting for this happen for the best part of a month. Aurier we were clearly waiting on resolution of his legal situation. Moura was supposed to be included in the aurier deal in the summer window but for whatever reason it didn't happen then. I'd say we were waiting till the last day for sissoko hoping the price would go down but that didn't exactly happen.

Llorente I would say was a last minute pick up.

I think the only mistake we have made this window is believing we could get Martial. Other than that I'm sure we will sign playeras we have thoroughly scouted and believe fit the unit. It's hard to improve this squad and we all want top players. Fact is we are performing in an elite manner but we aren't quite at the top table yet. Let's hope we push on now the stadium is operational.

20-25 I guess has a similar impact, although 25 makes more sense for Villa meeting FFP obligations
