Livid that we once again, as per tradition with Pochettino, is trying to sell a player after twelve months. If Pochettino can't see how to improve Aurier, who I think already is a highly capable player despite a few obvious flaws, then I don't understand this "great coach" label that's attributed to Pochettino. In my view, improving Aurier over the summer should be the easiest of all the squad.
Maybe he just prefers Trippier and KWP?

I must admit that I'm a little bit confused about these figures. If Herc says 170 gross, and:

De Ligt = 70
Martial = 60 approx

That is only leaving 40 for a CM (possibly 2)?

Also seems to rule out any chance of Bale, and where does it leave Sessengon?

Not putting this directly to you by the way Herc, just trying to figure out the permutations in my frazzled, tired brain ?
Not if Martial is a swap deal...hence maybe dealing with one in the PL and one in Europe?

I don't care what the "rationale" is, in reality. The possible explanations are evident. What I think is that the constant act of having a player who is only allowed 12 months is just bullshit, and Aurier I think is the most bullshit of all 12 months players Pochettino's ever had.

Yep. We've seen that poch will cut out players he doesn't think are up to it. Sell now recoup as much as we can of his transfer fee and reinvest.
Janssen out Llorente in? N'jie out and N'koudou in? I'd rather be without that kind of transfer stupidity.

Is £70mil that crazy? Considering VVD went for £75mil. And de Ligt has arguably outshone him when playing for Holland. Considering we paid in excess of £50mil for Davinson, forking out an extra £20mil for his ex-teammate who’s younger and was considered the more talented of the two at Ajax doesn’t seem that mental.
42m for Davinson...and that is "up to". Big difference between that and 70m

Yeah that has me scrathching my head as well, especially if we lose Wanyama and Dembele and Sissoko. Maybe Onomah will be given a chance but surely we would need 2 more signing for the middle

To be honest I'd rather spend 70m on a CM than an 18yr old untested CB. Judgement of him could potentially be clouded by fact he's only 18 and assumption he's just going to get better and better, which doesn't always happen.

150-170m sounds a lot of money to spend, which it is, however if suddenly you've used 60 on De Ligt, 60 on Martial we could end up with not enough to bring in likely 2 CMs who improve us, one of which has got to be top quality. CM for me should be priority one this window.

Who says it wont be up to £70m? Or maybe even less?
Yes you're right but that 70m figure has freaked me tonight. But fairly sure the initial outlay for Davinson was 28m plus 14m in add ons so I'm sure Levy would want something similar in structure, and in value if he had his way! :sneaky:

Not that impressed with the links to the CMs in the media, So the biggest hope for me is that there's something good going on there.

Hoping one of the N's isn't indeed Josh o(N')oma. But perhaps it makes some sense if we structure a Barca style 2+3 year buyback clause where we get the time to evaluate if he's got superstar quality and a decent cash sum now to chase dreams with.

Presuming that he figures Herc is throwing out exclude 'extra-budgetary' fantasy ideas like a late move for Bale and a delayed/future move for Sess, then I could see us building a team that wins the title in 2019/20 after we've fully adapted to nWHL and these new young signings have got into their full stride - the quality of targetsthis summer seems to finally be a statement of intent to that end.

But left confused by his comment about the 170m 'gross' spend though... because I can see well over 200 coming in from sales of the players he listed (Llorente 5 Gnk 10 Serge 20 Jansen 15 Alderweireld 60 Kids 5 (Kb…KW etc) Dembelle 20 Lamela 25 Sissoko 15 Wanyama 40 Onoma 10m). I can't believe that after all Herc's exitement to date we'll end up making a significant net profit once again...?

Seperately, I'm disappointed to hear that Serge is getting the chop before trippier though as I feel that his ceiling is far higher and that with little more improvement to come from him now that Trippier wont ever be up to the standards we aspire towards.

I like the sounds of that itk on the surface, but 170m (as ridiculous as it sounds) wont be much actual spend after those massive sales and frankly would leave us short in the squad (especially cm). Especially in this market.

£70m on an 18 yr old Dutch league player that nobody knows if hes truly good enough? Nope. Im all the way out on that. For that kind of money, we should be going for a top quality CM that will walk into the XI. Not a 3rd CB. Give me option C then for a CB or better yet, give me option A, keep Toby.

To be honest, I couldn't give a flying fu*k how much we spend on the player as long as he improves us... The money side is for Levy to worry about.. If Poch wants him and Levy wants to pay for him, happy days we're good to go for what could be... An unforgettable summer ?

£70M is absolutely insane for an unproven teenager.

Sad times.

Thanks Herc for the ITK...I'm very excited about our German prospects. There's quality in those leagues, at reasonable prices.

He said gross spend. After Martial, de Ligt and your CM you’ll then have whatever funds are generated via player sales to spend.
Gross meaning what we would spend this summer. Player sales would recoup somw of that. Not be added on. If he said net, then the player sales would be added on.

No, that’d be a net spend surely? I think most of us who were getting excited about the £150m war chest for the summer were presuming that was net....if we’re selling half our squad to fund it we’re probably spending about £12m net. Classic DL!

I agree in the fact that moving Aurier this quickly is a massive mistake. If he and Wanyama end up gone I think those will both be really bad moves. I still think Poch is a top notch coach but it is incredibly frustrating to continue to see this. Both of these guys have great potential when they're at their best.

gross = total spend, not related to player sales.

Herc is saying we will spend a total of £170M +/- this summer, which would be the most we have ever spent in a transfer window by a considerable margin
