£70M is absolutely insane for an unproven teenager.

Sad times.

Thanks Herc for the ITK...I'm very excited about our German prospects. There's quality in those leagues, at reasonable prices.

Tbh i have no idea about the german league. Guess i'll have a look in the player threads.

De Ligt is considered the better prospect between he and Davinson Sanchez.

There is a reason Man City are in for him - when they could have any defender in the world.
So last season it was Davinson who was considered the better prospect, but now it’s de Ligt?

gross = total spend, not related to player sales.

Herc is saying we will spend a total of £170M +/- this summer, which would be the most we have ever spent in a transfer window by a considerable margin
We spent about 115million in transfers over the course of last season.

Wonder how much Alderweireld, Wanyama, Dembele, Aurier, Sissoko, Janssen, Llorente and NKoudou will add up to, 150m maybe. 20m Net spend sounds about what historically we'd expect max.

Yes - and I think by any definition, spending £170M this summer would be considerably more...almost 50% more
I'm completely in agreement with you just wanted to throw it out there in case people weren't aware that we did make a considerable jump from the 16-17 season where we just about doubled our overall spend.

I've been very excited by most of what Herc has said this spring but this latest bit has me confused.

Based on the names Herc mentioned as potential sales and some conservative estimates of what they would bring in (Toby - $40 mil, Dembele - $25 mil, Janssen - $10 mil, Llorente - $10 mil, N'Koudou - $10 mil, Serge - $20 mil, Sissoko - $15 mil, Wanyama - $20 mil for a total of $150 mil in sales)

If Spurs GROSS spend around $170 million, but get the totals listed above which I think is reasonable, then a net spend of $20 mil or so going into the new stadium is not exactly something to get excited about.

Not putting down Herc or his info, but that word "gross" spend really changes my outlook going forward. And as someone said, if $70 mil goes to DeLigt and $60 mill or so goes to Martial, there is no way they are getting the quality they need to go for the title and cover the needed areas of depth for $40 mill.

Kind of hope I am interpreting this ITK wrong.

Edit: Unless major increases in wages in not factored in as well. No idea how to calculate the cost of the overall increase in wages but let's say $10 or $15 mill more, then maybe it's a little better picture but still not a major "statement" going into stadium.

I make it a fair bit more tbh- I think that Wanyama goes for 40m and Tony not less than 60 if its to Man U. And I think it's got to be wrong, as if we are gonna be turning over 400m+ and seriously making this the summer we make a play for the title, I don't see how these finances remain consistent with us making a net profit for the however many years in a row it would still be

I would assume its 70m€ than £ . Moreover, Herc is saying is Ajax is looking to get as much as 70m, not that they will get that. If player wants to leave, price will be lesser.

No club even City will pay him this much. So, lets not get carried away with 70m tag.

Having said that, people question his age. Fact still remains this lad at 17 carried his team to EL finals. Thats not a easy thing to do at 17. There is certainly value in his abilities.

Last week it was supposed to be a net spend of 150 million, plus receipt from sales being plowed back to be spent; leading to some guestimate of total spend to be in the region 220-250 million.

Wouldn't worry too much at how much players will cost bought or sold. These figures will change.

I'd presume he confused gross for net. Too wildly contradicts his previous tidbits otherwise. Indeed though I will be worried if he does indeed mean gross, as that would mean us spending even less than is speculated Arsenal will (50m net)!

That’s where my head was when I got the gross/net thing flipped. Thought it was 170 on top of sales instead of 150.

In this market, to compete for the title we’d eat into 60+% of the 170M just to fill the current holes before outgoings (CM, backup CAM, backup striker/winger). Then you’re looking having to replace most of these outgoing players with the remaining money and it seems like we are going backwards.
