This shit is frustrating have kept away from people I know in the game as things always seem to go tits up. Reading what others are saying the deal is still on the cards. But cant see their chairman budging from his stance.

Regardless of there debt if we want him we have to bite the bullet or others will come in. That's the facts simple as that.

That makes no difference. Being in debt will more than likely to harden their resolve and result in them holding out for their asking prices.

Us going over there saying, well you are in debt, here's £22m, you should be happy with that is going to receive short measure.

If you want to buy something when the price is fixed you can't negotiate.
Just as Levy would do with his valuation of Bale.

Negotiation is common practice and integral to the way we do business I'm afraid. Sometime it works in our favour, other times it doesn't pan out they way we would hope. It can be immensely frustrating but the way we conduct ourselves is massively related to our recent growth and development.

We arn't in a position to just pay the asking price in the first instance for every single player we sign. If we had done that over the years we would be millions and millions of pounds worse off. Not to mention we'd be touted the softest touches to deal with, which exacerbates the problem further.

You're analogy of buying a pint of milk for x amount of pence with a multi million pound investment is simplistic in the extreme.

Don't be stupid. If you have a car and I offer you 10000 for it you are more likely to begrudgingly part with it if you need the money. Valencia need the money, they can talk about sticking to their guns all they want but if they fail to sell Soldado they risk the future of their club, so they aren't going to tell us take it or leave it, when we are so close to their asking price.

Do you know for a fact that we are dicking around?

Seems to me that Valencia's public stance is just part of the negotiating process.
I know nothing about it for a fact, but going by our previous bids for strikers, you can either choose to believe that we are the most unlucky club in the world, or that we dick about with 10 year installment plans and and other such.

Is this ITK. Whats the milks best position? If we play Milk up front I think that would mean 433 for sure. Knowing Levy he'll wait til deadline day and it'll be off

It works both ways, if it doesn't happen then we don't get the striker we need, but they don't get any money either when they could have got 22m or whatever

People are moaning that Levy is trying to pay what he feels is value for a 28 yr old? How many times does it need explaining to you? WE ARE NOT OWNED BY A RICH FOREIGN OWNER! WE CANNOT JUST PAY THE SELLING CLUBS VALUATION STRAIGHT UP!

Let our chairman do it his way. The only reason we are in the position to compete for players of Soldados calibre is through all the years of haggling.

I'm confident we will get there. It only seems to be taking a long time because we are receiving a blow by blow account.

The Liverpool thing is an itch that won't go away. I want to ignore it, but its hovering there. The public statements last night by Valencia president saying stuff along the lines of ' its close and should be concluded tomorrow' could well have been a line to draw out the other clubs who were interested and watching developments. Liverpool may have asked Valencia to keep them informed of any action surrounding Soldado, in the way that most clubs do with any player they are potentially interested in. Last nights statements could have sprung them into trying to gazump us late, knowing that Arsenal and/or Madrid are ready to bid serious money for Suarez. What they can offer is a quicker route to agreeing a transfer fee, and potentially offering Soldado higher wages.

It all makes complete sense, but the annoying thing is the whole thing could be a figment of our imagination, and the Liverpool rumours could well just be a political move to drive up our bid, like the ITKs are suggesting.

Annoyingly unsettling and very difficult to ascertain for sure which is the reality.

Valencia see this as black and white. This negotiating word only applies to Levy.
Inthe same way that when I go to Tesco and try to negotiate the price for my milk. They just turn around and say. It's 45p, pay it or go somewhere else.

Edit - Opps quoted wrong post!

At the end of the day, Tottenham Hotspur FC is a business. We can't just go up willy nilly and offering fees expecting the deal to be done. This line of thinking comes up every window, but this isn't fantasy football, fifa, or championship manager (yeah old school ;) ). Its frustrating, when we have to live in the world with the likes of man city, but at the end of the day, we are a well run club, who already seem to spend above our weight (what other club with a 36000 stadium spend as much as we do), who are unlikely to go bust.

We may seem slow, in a world of instant gratification, but look at our signings in the last 4/5 years, very astute and players we have sold on for much money, or the potential too - modric, carrick, berbatov, sandro, vertonghen, bale, walker, lloris, kaboul, etc etc. And with a new state of the art training ground and new stadium coming.

When we win the league it will be glorious. Hard earn't, and respectable and an example to all.

Exactly. People criticising the very tactic that has elevated us as a Club.

And yes, this transfer is a real rollercoaster because of the leaks, blow by blow, that Valencia have let out.

All posturing IMO. I believe the player wants to come and in the end we'll reach an agreement, and it won't be for a straight 30 million euros either.

Valencia's chairman has been in charge since June 4th and is listed in his wiki as an 'entrepreneur' having co-founded and developed an electronics company.
He was appointed by the Valencian government to the project and subsequently took over the chairman/president role.

The fucker is a businessman, which is good in the sense he should understand negotiation, but bad insofar as he is probably enacting some uber-complex cock-waving game theory inspired contest whilst trying to appeal to his new fans.

Let's hope Levy is well-hung.

I think it's more case of Spurs having optimistically pursued strikers who were either too expensive, full stop, or who were valued more highly by their clubs than by us.

Levy's probably going to try and hire this guy after negotiations are over.

Levy: Strong negotiator you are. Train you in the ways of Levy I will.
