I'm not saying they are infallible.

Name me one we have released/sold off in the last ten years that has gone on to prove them wrong though. In fact go back further if you like who was the last youngster we moved on that went on to be a star.

Souness was pretty good

It's very risky and depends on if Eriksen and Dele change positions and Grealish and Cook work within that.

I like Cook but can't see him filling Dembele's shoes. I think he has a lovely talent but I would like to see us go for someone a little more polished or with more of a ceiling than Cook. If it was 2/3 years ago I'd say great, now I'd like him to either outgrow his role at Bournemouth or prove himself at a club another step up from them. Come and see how he's getting on in a couple of years

I agree, it's probably Souness.

I'm going to give you a chance to write down the names of every young player that you think Spurs have let go and went on to become a star and when your done, I want you to go outside of your office/house/flat/bedsit/cellar or wherever it is you're festering and show the list to the first stranger that passes by.

My money is that he will give about as much of a fuck as this thread does. Anyway, crack on, it's obviously important to you. Let me know when you're done and we can re-open this and I dunno, maybe fire into the actual ITK?

Ryan Fredericks, Tom Carroll, Nabil Bentaleb, Alex Pritchard, Jake Livermore, not to mention players like Ryan Mason, Andros Townsend or even Peter Crouch that were let go off from our club after developing through the youth system. Their chance doesn't just stop at Tottenham
I’d add Charlie Daniels and Adam Smith to that group.

Interesting news/link on Cook, so thanks for the ITK, Trix. Happy to see us linked with some of brighter talents here again, it has served us well in the past.

Look out for media outlets later on today, could overlap to tomorrow

Also, going against the grain here but don’t think Onomah is going anywhere despite not being on tour.

So we're trying to win the league but looking at the likes of Cook and Grealish. Cool. I'm happy with us not challenging and love the exciting team but don't tell us we're looking at challenging.
We challenged for the league in a season where our only first team signing was Victor Wanyama. High profile transfers =/= success. Both Lewis Cook and Jack Grealish would be signings that are very characteristic of Tottenham over the last 5 years. The same 5 years in which we had our best league run since the 60s.

Hmmm lewis cook ... cheers for itk passing on potential target ...

yes i get it youth and future future future ... just very underwhelming ... thr tactic of not annoucing existing big name player extensions seems like a safe guard to a potentially known crap window .... we needed to min 2 top quality additions first team starters/fight for first team first 11 place, players with pedigree and help us move to a up in level with minimum impact time ...

Feels like the club didnt plan on the scenario of moving players out never going or being bouggt at our valuation ... betting on them leaving and just doing all leg work on incomings ... hence if one cog fails so do the others .... or just great used tactic for excuse and convenience of not buying some proper quality again.. we can buy ... but we wont but will show were trying

Im not saying they havent just very much feels like it from the club in terms of goings on and info weve had from itk ...

Very underwhemling its begining to feel

I'm gonna punch myself in the dick till i die from it if we dont sign someone who immediately improves our first team.. I Really cant imagine this is what Poch was talking about when he mentioned being brave. Yes i understand money and how you need it to buy players but some are expensive and how theres squad places and you cant put too many players into too little spaces and pay all their wages. I just pissing well want a big money signing that'll make me jizz my pants and take us to the next level. we should definately keep buying potential but i just feel we need it at this stage

Stars I get your point but there are plenty of serviceable players the past few years who could’ve done the same job as the punts like N’Jie, N’Koudou, Llorente etc who ended up costing the club what £40m? Veljkovic, Berchiche, Falque all did relatively well once departing. Townsend arguably would’ve done a better job than the two N’s.

I don’t think anyone was singing from the rooftops saying O’Shea, Richardson, Brown etc were brilliant when they were supplementing the United side under Fergie but they saved the club money and maintained the club ethos in the side/squad.

None of those players though were signed with the intention to just play the odd few games in merely a bit part role. They were punts taken on how they had been playing at their previous clubs. There is a difference though because those you mention already at the club we had had years to assess their limitations. Those brought in were already doing well so we take a gamble and see if they will step up with coaching. It takes time to properly assess the full potential of these players, which is why a year 18 months down the line they are now being sold off.

In hindsight yes some of these players could have also stayed, done the same job, and had the same small amount of impact. That again is only something we know in hindsight.

in regards to Josh, he wants to play if he has been told that is unlikely this season is he going to be content to have a season where he sits back and has the same game time as the "N's" have had?

you have to remember from the players pov it's about progressing in their careers. Is it a progression for Josh to know he will go into the first team with little to no chance of playing? From Cook or Grealish perspective they are already playing first team Football so a move to a bigger club is a progression. They will have enough belief in themselves now that they will force their way in and eventually be first choice. If in hindsight it turns out they end up like the N's, well thats the risk, but that won't be the outlook as of now.

Perhaps someone at the club knows something you don't?
Perhaps Onomah is not rated as highly by the people that work with him?
Perhaps Josh is over hyped on here by people that haven't seen him compete against seasoned pro's?
Perhaps none of that is true, or even all of it, but the way JO is spoken of on here is so reminiscent of so many talented Youth players who have never made it in the long term. So someone who released them clearly knew something.
I posted this before last season.
I sat next to Ugo Ehigue

I posted this last year. I sat next to Ugo Ehiogu some months before he died at a Spurs match. I asked him who he considered ws the best of our youngsters He said without doubt Josh. He had everything but had never had the chance to play in the right position when coming on to play as a sub. His position is central mid field but Ugo feared it would be very difficult for him to break into the team in that position as we were so o strong there. He did say that without doubt he would make it as he was extremely talented probably the best youngster he had ever seen.
He also said that Edwards had supreme talent but such a poor attitude that he had grave doubts that he would make it. BTW he w a really lovely guy and a sad loss.
