And you've just let something slip about your source....we know it's a man now.

He already said it was one of the players and I assume he didn't mean the ladies team ;-)

Forlan can play up top on his own, in Spain. I'm not sure he is the ideal lone striker in England. The defenders are a lot more physical in England, and even though Forlan is strong, i'm not sure he'll be able to hold the ball up as a lone striker.

He's definitely an upgrade on what we have, has great movement and is a very intelligent striker.

There are a lot of lone strikers who can't hold up the ball yet are effective. Bent for example can play alone up front, yet he rarely sees the ball.

Anyway that whole argument is largely irrelevant. Forlan is a brilliant technical player, you give him the ball he will shift it with good passing. As long as we keep the ball on the deck I am sure he would do well in that role (presuming his dip is temporary)

Just seems to me that it's too great a risk regarding his disappointing form last season.
I watch a lot of La Liga and I'm really worried if we get him that he won't perform any better for us than he has RECENTLY for Atleti.
And I still maintain he's not what we need.

I'm amazed people still continue to go on about Forlan's 'disappointing form' last season, as reason not to sign him.

The manager switched to a 4-3-3, and played Aguero as the lone man ahead of Forlan, with other players out wide. Forlan was effectively frozen out. Their relationship went downhill, and by all accounts, the manager is extremely difficult and arrogant, and chose to victimize Forlan for daring to get unhappy. A lot of his appearances were substitute ones.

I don't think you can criticize him for bad form, when he wasn't given a proper chance during last season. He got most of his starts in the early part of the season, where quite a few players who had been heavily involved in the World Cup also looked fatigued and struggled somewhat.

You can't be sure with Shanks though.

So... can someone summarise the last 37 pages for me? Was Forlan really at Spurs Lodge/The medical place today or what?!

I don't think anyone's confirmed the medical. But none of the ITK's have denied it either. Shanks also said his source thinks we've agreed terms with Joe Cole (but not a fee), that Walker, Naughton & Caulker will get a chance next year, and that Keane, Jenas and someone else are being sold.

I think there was more, but I've forgotten it.

Still intresting that no other ITK has come out to piss on Shanks info regarding Forlan, which makes me think that Shanks source may not be on a wind up.

I won't be getting any more info for a week or two anyway, by which time we'll know if Shanks' source was bullshitting or not anyway

Cole is English and as everyone wants us to sell the homegrown players, Jenas, Crouch, Defoe etc and bring in Foreign superstars we will need to do something to sort the requied squad balance

We should be fine, we can only field a maximum of 17 non home grown players so if we want a full squad of 25 over 21s then we need to find 8 home grown, which with the current squad is likely to be:

King, Bale, Huddlestone, Lennon, Dawson, Parker, Alnwick + one of Defoe, Keane or Crouch (as we won't likely sell all 3).

Given that we're also likely to use Rose and Walker a fair amount next season i'm not even sure we need to worry about fielding a full 25 man over 21 squad, we could easily do with the first 5 players from above + 17 non home grown + Walker and Rose - thats' 24 players assuming we sell: Bentley, Jenas, Keane, Defoe, Crouch and Dos Santos and don't replace any of them with home grown players, which is highly unlikely.

Alnwick won't be in the 25 man, Friedel will replace Pletikosa with Cudicini and Gomes as the other two. I think Alnwick is below Button in the club hierarchy now in any case. Don't think we'll sell Gomes and if we did I'd expect a better replacement than Friedel!

The 8-man thing is less of a quota on home-grown players as it's a limit to 17 non-home grown over-21s

Maybe Friedel counts as home grown considering the weird Mid-Atlantic accent he has now though! :)

I'm not bullshitting and there is no wind up. I've never once said anyone was signing, or mentioned any fees, that is purely a presumption by others.
