The other difficulty we have this pre-season is in reality we are looking at players who will come and sit on the bench. Unless Walker and Dier do actually leave, then any new signing isn't gonna be for the first XI. Improving our squad depth is the hardest part.

Still, dissapointed with the Lemar news.

Barkley and Mawson on deadline day it is then? Not the most inspiring...

Why do we do it to ourselves?
Keep your pants on mate, whatever it is we 'keep doing to ourselves', it seems to be working out pretty damn well for us recently.

So just looks like sessegnon at the moment? And Barkley is also the only one he hasn't poo-pooed?

Yes there are no other players in world football.........We're doomed

But it's frustrating when most of your first options are a no-go. Just prove that money means so much.

Can imagine the transfer fee for Lemar is out of our range. Bakayoko is reportedly going for £35m. Would Monaco's 14 goal and 17 assist man, with 3 years left on his contract go for anything less than £40m?

Or maybe he just chose the scum.

Hope we land Suso & Gray now.

Indeed. Perhaps we should embrace our thriftiness rather than vilify it. A bit like the Millwall no one likes us song. Something like "We are skinflints, we don't care........"

Oh I better add a smiley in case some herbert thinks i'm being serious and takes umbrage, so, just for you dear herbert, whoever you are.......;)

I believe Levy already sings that song...

I completely agree. Just being kneejerk. Can't argue with our policy recently but I can't deny I liked the idea of us actually going all out this summer for a proper top player, and we may still do... He says optimistically

The way of the game I suppose, but to to see us go so well last season, and to finish so far ahead of the scum, yet to see them supposedly going out for these top names is frustrating. Just worry about our house I guess.

Hopefully we can pluck the next Modric/Dembele/Aubameyang from nowhere as I just admit, it is satisfying being that team that makes someone a superstar

This is the reality of not paying big wages unfortunately. It's a catch-22 to be honest, as the only way to increase your revenue streams is to be successful to build that big brand.

To be honest though, we already have a good squad and there isn't any needs that are absolutely urgent. Having said that a few good signings would be very handy.

I wasn't expecting sparks this window though really. I'm not expecting much more than Lopez and 1 or two more that might come out of the blue like Son and Stambouli.

Our first eleven will match any other first eleven in the league, however, this is a squad game, we saw it last year in European competition, where we were woeful, that we currently don't have the squad depth and compete on all fronts, which is exactly what we need to focus on improving this summer.

The signing of Lemar would have helped this, I just hope we do sign whoever was second to him rather than a panic buy.

Really depressing news coming from the ITKs at moment, would love to see some positive news...

All positive links have been rejected (Sessegnon will be great signing but he wont improve our first 11 for a few years) We seem to be relying too much on Poch magic, Everton/Pool/Arse/Chelse/Manch clubs are all strengthening big this summer, we could struggle next year if we don't strengthen that squad

The first 11 is brilliant (pending no losses) but our squad is weak - massively weak, yet we don't seem to be planning any business, JJ is just rejecting everything - lets hope a surprise is coming as we need a boost after the last 2 weeks of ITK

The news about Lemar makes me feel strangely flaccid, combine that with the likelihood the Arse are signing Lacazette and I find myself drawing the shades and reaching for the Leonard Cohen albums

Until he signs for Arsenal there's still hope. JJ might just have heard that as it stands it looks like he favours a move there. Things change all the time though
