Rather give CCV more minutes than spend 15m on a back-up
We also need a longterm plan to replace vertonghen. he may only have a couple more years at the top level left sadly. mawson learning from him for a season and starting to share the load could be good.

What a load of nonsense. We should always be looking to improve our first 11.
We can't really improve our first XI. We may be able to go for one guy that will compete for it (like a Lemar), but we simply can't afford the level of player we need to be a bona fide, no questions asked, starter in terms of wages. I think realistically we should be looking to improve the depth so we aren't as exposed to injuries/fixture congestion and creating long-term plans to seamlessly replace guys like dembele and vertonghen who won't be around forever.

My only assumption is, the relative appathy towards transfers that JJ alludes to, suggests maybe Poch is just happier with the current state than we believe. Maybe Carter-Vickers is closer than assumed, likewise Onomah, Edwards and Walker-Peters
I certainly believe that MP has a lot of faith in last years players to be able to compete again this season. He's no fool and will be watching the other top teams strengthening their squads. He'll know that not swapping some of his lesser players for quality ones will be a backward step.

Pinching a phrase from a good friend of mine _ dare to dream. The transfers (in and out) will come.

Agreed, Chelsea won the league with a record number of wins and yet are still about to sign Bakayoko with Lukaku and Alex Sandro in the pipeline.

Lemar was an improvement for me which is the most frustrating thing.

With JJ having pooh-poohed the likes of De Ligt, Under, Sidibe, Ginter and Lemar it seems likely to me that we will be concentrating on signing players with premiership (or championship) experience. While it might not be sexy I think i'd be happy if we signed the likes of Mawson, Sessegnon, Gray, Barkley and King and let Poch work his magic.
If you offered me that window now with either Walker or Pereira then i'd take that myself. They may not be out of the top drawer but they do improve us in areas where we are weak.

I can't see us coming close to signing that number of players though.

Yup, I'm sure we'd all love a massive signing, but let's be honest with ourselves, we need to consolidate what we have before we have increased spending power in the new stadium.

Last year we were amazing, it's going to take a galactico signing to improve our 1st eleven. But what we lacked was depth, injuries hurt us badly in key parts of the season. Snapping up young hungry players with Premier League experience such as Gray, King, and Mawson would be shrewd moves. Barkley is one that could be a master stroke if Poch works his magic.

The most important thing imo is keeping our players out of the clutches of our rivals, followed by improving our depths.

At the end of November we had 6 wins, 6 draws and 1 loss. Not a shit start.

In case "up to December" means "including December": at the end of December we had 10 wins, 6 draws and 2 losses. Not a shit start.

You can't make this argument stick, because it's objectively not true. We lost all of two matches in the first four months of the season. Calling that a "shit start" is the "Trump's inauguration crowd" of bullshit arguments, because there is a pile of evidence that contradicts it.
Not shit, but not league winning form. Amount to about 72 points per season.

Reality dose & check needed. Imho we will be not signing a stella name as we cannot compete financially. Barkley, if it happens is the biggest name we will probably sign, with couple at least more potential signings, who is a bit further down the line than say our recent N'jie's/Nkoudou. I really cannot understand the meltdown panic attacks. My concern is what kind of players, and when we sign them. Seems a farce to me. Great example is the GK. We agree a deal 12 months ago, and allegedly we are trying to penny pinch. Last season he had almost 2 years left on his contract. Now we allegedly renogiating.

It is not everything that 'leaks' out is bs by the media.

Let me add, I would love to be proven wrong.

Good morning

Here's a new thread for the discussion of ITK.

It's gone very quiet on the ITK front, with a few JJ Tweets being about all we've had.

It's still VERY early days though. I don't think pre-season starts for a couple of weeks yet, then you've got haggletime, then you've got Levytime on top of that so we're not expecting to see anything happen for ooooh, two months :D
I know it's not allowed but your latest post in the RO deserves a WTF rating for the last sentence, it would be so unfair to face a ban for rating an ego, something I'd never dream to do as a rating, unless deserved, but not brave enough ;)

If we are going to go cheap and can't afford a lot of players then Sessegnon is a must buy, guy has potential to be the next Dele. If as a club we are going to Dortmund or Monaco route then perhaps we can't buy the best but we should be looking to buy the best for the future.

Now. Back to ITK. I prefer the ITK that says the club is sitting about feeling un-pressured and relaxed, while the fans are flapping about madly, rehearsing the inaccurate, outdated arguments about "other teams spending big to improve" and "being left behind".

That isn't our strategy anymore. We tried that. We finished 5th and 6th.

Now we build a team. And all of those big-spending teams except one finished behind us last season.
David I don't think anyone is flapping mate some are voicing concerns over our transfer policy which is fair enough.
As you rightly said we finished above all but one of the big teams last time out and it remains to be seen if that can be done again.
That maybe difficult with our financial constraints compared with the others who it seems can buy at will, " the collective" spirit and morale that is evident will only carry us so far.
Top players as a rule want top clubs, top wages and the chance to win top prizes, we have done so well and have been magnificent but without the added quality we may not finish amongst the top four this time around.
I have a feeling that we won't make top four this time which may cause 1/2 of the players to seek a move next year, if this this happens it may take a couple of years to get back amongst it again.
Whatever happens the long term future of the club is secured with the new stadium and that is guaranteed, whether players stay or we are successful again is less so imo.

I think that is the market we're still working in. As long as we're identifying the right ones with upside then fine by me. When linked with Lemar earlier in the summer I thought we were stepping into that next level of transfers but we're soon priced out of it aren't we - still a case of getting the Lemars of this world before they go to the likes of the top champions league sides

I think I prefer it this way. Realistically we can't compete financially with the likes of Chelsea and the Manc clubs and while they can afford to be hit and miss we can't afford the misses. We have a manager who has shown he is very good at developing young players and bringing out their potential so we should play to our strengths.

There's also something much more satisfying about watching players like Alli, Kane, Rose and Dier develop into players other clubs desperately want to buy to replace their big money signings that haven't worked out and being able to tell them to go do one.

We have a few at our academy.

Onomah was instrumental in a World Cup winning team, as was KWP. Winks will be back and fit. Edwards, I feel, will have a part to play, even CCV I think will play a part in the upcoming season.

That's 5 off the top of my head, all exciting young prospects who have impressed at various levels.
But Mawson is an England U21 international who could make the break through to the senior squad next season. We always say we should try and spot players early so why not sign him for £15m now, rather than wait a season and see his price raise to £25m+?

How many years have we not splashed out on big money signings and how many transfer windows have people bitched about it?

We will sign who we sign and getting your knickers in a twist about not signing x,y and z. Will make absolutely sweet Fanny Adams difference to who we sign, it will just add more stress to yourself, so why do it?

ITK is awesome, it's better than the Gossip of Newspapers and is specific about our club but it is still if's and maybes. Don't get emotionally involved.

So Lemar might go to Arsenal, big whoop they're probably losing both Ozil and Sanchez who are in their prime and if they weren't running their contracts down, worth considerably more. They want out though and clearly shows what a shit choice Lemar is making
