My take on Lemar - who here would have included him on a wish list prior to our interest in him?

No...me neither!

He is a good player so yes would of, certainly not at the top, from Monaco that would have been Bernardo Silva, I think he would be better than Mbbape for us and for me City made the best signing in the window with him.

I will get shouted down by but in terms of what we are missing in terms of pace/power I think Zaha would have been a very good signing, he caused Chelsea, Liverpool etc all sorts of problems in games last season and is Prem proven but he is gone as well.

I don't know, what's your list, there isnt many players that I like that we have any realistic chance with.

Agree regarding the RW which is why Lemar was desperately needed, I don't see anyone else out there (but I'm not a scout) who is in our price range and wage structure who we could get, especially given Lemar clearly wasn't. We have to stop making silly mistakes (Nkoudou and Njie) last 2 seasons - we need a solid RW. I have a feeling we will sign Pereira and we will play him RW and not RB. Not sure if he can do that but its a cheap option and we all know Levy likes this.

What frustrates me is the ITKs said we would strengthen this summer and learn from our mistakes yet thus far the only rumours are players wanting out and no confirmed ins, may be early days but if we are meant to have learnt from the last 2 summers, we haven't - we have lost the league 2 years on the trot due to our starts to the season and not having a squad ready.

Absolutely fuming today as we seem to be getting somewhere at last as a club yet can really see us falling behind next year
There are other players out there , IE Keita Balde Diao, Christian Pulistic,Demarai Gray, Marcus Edwards,to name four

RB (only if Walker goes) - Ricardo Pereira - There was ITK, think it was JJ who confirmed we were looking at Pereira.
RCB - Joel Veltman or Matthias Ginter - Initially Veltman was confirmed as on the watch list, but JJ dismissed the media story about Ginter.
LCB (only if Wimmer goes) - Alfie Mawson - BBQ ITK about Mawson, would imagine we'd have to sell Wimmer first, and he's tweeted about looking forward to pre season training, so doesn't appear imminent.
LB - Ryan Sessegnon - Plenty of previous ITK about Sessegnon and us being in the box seat, albeit gone quiet of late.
AM - Ross Barkley - Plenty of initial ITK that Barkley was the one Poch wants, but again gone quiet. I wonder if the need here is linked to Lamela's future.
WF/CF - Keite Balde or Mariano Diaz - Not so much ITK on Balde or Mariano, probably more media talk I suppose, but Zaha was the type of forward we are in need of, pace & power.

These are the areas I think we need to address, varying degrees of urgency, plus a list of those linked both in the media, and also ITK. Would be happy with that list personally, would give us better balance.

All of those listed, are gettable from their clubs, either through contracts running down, release fees, or just known to be available.

At this point I do wish we'd show more urgency. Liverpool, City and Utd are the teams in behind us, and they're making moves. What's the saying, "There is no such thing as standing still; you either move forward or regress." I understand we are on a specific business model, but in order to take the next step, I think we need a leap of faith, get transfers done so Poch can run a full pre-season.

Poch has made me love football and Spurs more than ever but as each season passes and the gap between the financial power of us and the other top teams only seems to widen, it really does seem inevitable that our current success is on borrowed time.

It's sickening, but thats modern football, we've been lucky to have been removed from it for the last couple of years...

It's not just down to that though, Pochettino's coaching, ethos and the culture he's instilled within the Club is worth far more than any individual signing and ultimately it's his affect that has seen us elevate to the next level.

We keep him and we'll continue to progress and compete at the top end of the league.

In fact if I was one of our competitors I'd be worried about Pochettino getting better with more experience.

I'm totally relaxed about what we're doing and not concerned regarding others at all.

People get their knickers in a knot far too quickly.

We keep Pochettino and the rest looks after itself as far I'm concerned.

How many years have we not splashed out on big money signings and how many transfer windows have people bitched about it?

We will sign who we sign and getting your knickers in a twist about not signing x,y and z. Will make absolutely sweet Fanny Adams difference to who we sign, it will just add more stress to yourself, so why do it?

ITK is awesome, it's better than the Gossip of Newspapers and is specific about our club but it is still if's and maybes. Don't get emotionally involved.

So Lemar might go to Arsenal, big whoop they're probably losing both Ozil and Sanchez who are in their prime and if they weren't running their contracts down, worth considerably more. They want out though and clearly shows what a shit choice Lemar is making

Best thing i've read on SC today

Whilst I agree with the general sentiment of all the people reminding us that JJ's hint that Lemar will go to Arsenal doesn't mean that the sky is about to collapse, I equally wouldn't completely gloss over it and maintain that everything is sunshine, lollipops and rainbows either.

For all the talk of "just trust Poch and everything will be fine" we've pretty much had it confirmed by JJ and Trix that we've been after Zaha and Lemar as two of our top targets this window, and now they're both looking like they're no longer on the cards. I presume we were targeting them for a reason, and therefore we will now be looking at alternatives who wouldn't have been our preferences if our first choices were available. No, not the end of the world, but yes a bit of a blow.

Don't forget that last summer missing out on our first choice target of attacking midfielder meant that we signed Sissoko instead, so just like we shouldn't get too worked up, let's not get too blasé either...

But Mawson is an England U21 international who could make the break through to the senior squad next season. We always say we should try and spot players early so why not sign him for £15m now, rather than wait a season and see his price raise to £25m+?
I don't have any issues with Mawson Nailsy, at £15 mill I'd be quite happy to see him come in. All I'm saying is that we have quite a few quality prospects on the cusp ourselves, it's not as if we're having to look elsewhere for talent because we have none available ourselves.

Having said that, we'd be foolish to pass up on any available talent that we can get hold of.

I suppose I'm making the point more because of the angst you get on here if we don't secure a prominent talent. We have more than a few of our own who are already starting to make names for themselves.

There's a couple in the Italian team who look real quality.

They are on Levy's payroll, did you expect any of them to be given a month off? ;)

I do agree that with Poch, the current squad and a couple of smart additions (and greater experience from last season) we will be very strong again, but there is always an element of risk with our strategy which can't be ignored IMHO. Certainly not with the Wembley situation (which is awful timing even if we adapt as quickly as we hope)...

Well it seems as though Levy is happy to give those responsibility for signing players a bloody month off, so that's that argument out the window.

Many of us, me included, seem to be of the opinion that Lemar was our biggest target, yet it would have cost us a club record for a bench player.

Maybe he just wasn't wanted as much by us as he was needed the goons.

Truth is we dont really know who our main targets are as the media rarely get it right. Perhaps our main targets are still out there and we dont know about them yet as its early days.

Given son and lamela are out as well as no dele for CL we desperately need quality AMs. Lemar going with money over champions league is both disgusting and heartbreaking

It's a shame that yet again it boils down to wages regarding Lemar. He was a player that definitely would of suited our style of play and would of injected much needed pace and direct play. I honestly felt we had a real chance in getting him (champions league new stadium etc) but it seems it wasn't enough.

But I'm not too worried because it's still early days and I got a feeling we will be going for players that haven't even been linked yet. And I'm sure behind close doors things are brewing.

Poch has mentioned a few times how important it is to add to the squad especially for the forthcoming season.

Let's not jump to any conclusions because I got a feeling come start of the season we will be very satisfied with the squad we will have. We must remember the likes of Lamela (will feel like a new signing and I have no doubt will play an integral part next season), Winks (who I think will have a special season ahead of him) Rose to all come back. Our squad is looking so strong.

Add 2-3 more quality players that will improve the squad as a whole (especially on the bench) and we will be in a position to really make a statement on all fronts.

It sticks a craw in my throat that after the comparative seasons we've had, and the directions the clubs are seemingly going in, that we still can't compete with the Arsenals and Man Utd's of this world when it comes down to it

Money talks and bullshit walks I'm afraid
