Completely underwhelmed by Lavazzi's (or whatever) goal scoring record! We already have a striker who assists goals but doesn't score any (Crouch) and we have a "Number 10" type in VDV.

We need a "Number 9" type who can lead the line. Where is he?!

The Lavezzi agent quotes have been knocking around since this morning (for the record).

Also on Elmander - think its all but decided he's off to Gala. Can't believe Bolton have let him slip through their fingers for nothing after spanking £10m on him.[/quote]

How the fuck did their chairman let that happen?!

Don't know this Lavezzi at all but sounds like a VDV to me. NOT the type of player we need.

Lavezzi is an amazing player. He could imo lead the line ala Tevez but could also play in a 4-3-3 like Suarez

Elmander knows the Bosman rule works in his favour. Clubs cant do anything about it if the player is determined enough.

Because Bolton need to get there wage bill down I would imagine. Add in that if the player doesn't want to sign a new contract then the club can't force him to.

True but you would of thought that they'd have some indication he wanted out a while ago so could have made a small loss on him, now they've made a complete loss.

people need to get this obsession with us needing a 6ft+ striker out of their heads tbh.

Even if they wanted to sell him last summer you would need the players agreement to make any deal happen. If he refused a move then Bolton did the right thing in getting as much out of him as possible this season then let him leave.

Doesn't need to be 6ft+ but does need to be able to lead the line by himself if we are going to play with VDV as a #10 because VDV tends to float too deep at times leaving our loan striker very isolated.

Not bothered if he's 6ft+ as long as he puts the inflated bit of leather in the onion bag!

Lavezzi's goalscoring record doesn't suggest he's the man to do that for us.

Sure, he might offer other things (things possibly offered by VDV already - plus VDV gets goals) but a goalscorer is what we need first and foremost.

And yeah, as nidge says, someone who can lead the line, maybe even up there on his own, that'd be great too. Doesn't have to be 6ft+. A Les Ferdinand type would be ideal, someone strong, good in the air. Sir Les was only 5'10ish, so 6ft+ is not a pre-requisite, as such.

From the ever-reliable world of youtube videos, Lavezzi strikes me as a similar player to Suarez. I may well be wrong and am happy to be corrected - but he appears to have the tenacity and skills etc.

But from what we are lead to believe we didn't sign Suarez because he was too similiar to what we already have so why look into signing Lavezzi?

Is Lavezzi a wing forward? Fast?

It seems like we're definitely setting up for a 4-2-3-1 next year and looking for someone to play out on the attacking wings that will get more goals than Lennon and perhaps Bale. Gervinho, Lavezzi, or maybe even Gameiro could fit in that role?

Then it looks like we're looking for a couple #9s with one experienced (a Drogba) and one youth (a Leandro/Lukaku) with one of Crouch/Pav to stick around as a "safe" backup.

Totally agree with that (except Gameiro is a last shoulder poacher, not a wide forward).

I wouldn't necessarily even keep one of Crouch or Pav because with vdV we'd have 2+2 forwards, which is plenty.

So

Marquee #9 - Falcao etc.
Back-up/young #9 - Leandro, Osvaldo etc.
+
Powerful wide (right)-forward - Gervinho, Lavezzi
#10 - vdV

Falcao gets injured in the first game of the season and isn't back until the new year. What's the solution?
