Spurs Boss Harry Redknapp prepares shock move to bring Paul Scholes out of retirement. Redknapp and Scholes were spotted leaving a Manchester hotel together on SAturday evening. When quizzed on the matter, Redknapp admitted his admirmation for Scholes, saying he thought he was a triffic player, a great football man, and someone he'd like to have around the place.

The mirror are reporting that Harry has said

Manager Harry ­Redknapp, who insists that Spurs need to strengthen their squad with two or three top class players, admits that he needs to sell before he can enter the transfer market.
Redknapp said: “There is nothing happening in the transfer market.
“I need to sell four or five players to bring in funds.
“The chairman has made it clear we need to move a few players before we can start doing any business.
“I keep seeing us linked with this player and that, but unless we reduce our squad numbers we will stay quiet in the market.”

I think the Lennon to Liverpool story was originally mentioned in this thread as Lennon himself being keen on the move. I doubt Liverpool though could afford the premium price Levy would demand based on what English players are going for at the moment.

i'm getting very annoyed by liverpool's activity and our lack of it. i know they had a lot more changing to do as their squad isnt/wasnt a patch on ours

but:
Carroll - £35m
Suarez - £23m
Henderson - £20m

Adam - £10m???
Downing - £15m? (and yes i know they arent done deals)

Its my liverpool hangover

we'll be lucky to get 6th at this rate

How depressing
we spent sod all in the last 2 transfer windows really and we have had a lucrative season in the CL.........why is there not a pot of money to spend??

And if we need to sell so badly lets start pricing our dead wood at realistic prices

Whether Harry did/didn't say that, I'd be very surprised if that wasn't true. I don't think we'll see any major arrivals until the clearly unwanted players like Keane, Krancjar etc depart. Kinda depressing.

1) we spent sod all in the last 2 transfer windows really and we have had a lucrative season in the CL.........why is there not a pot of money to spend??

1) Because we don't want to end up in Man City territory come September with a senior squad of 35-odd players, 10 of whom we can't register to play in the Premier League but who are all drawing a PL wage every week nonetheless. From a wage bill point of view only, my guess is that it's imperative we start shifting our surplus senior players.

And by the time we've haggled for every last penny, we'll be left feeding off the scraps left by the big 5. Liverpool has also been linked to Moussa Sissoko this morning - another one I'd really like at Spurs. Spurs King will back me up on that one!

That's more than £100m. And our squad and first XI is still much better than theirs. The only reason to feel envious of Liverpool right now is because we're still waiting to overhaul our strikers.

Come the end of the window, we'll have shifted two or three of our current strikers and brought in a couple of new ones. They may not be Eto'o or Forlan, but they don't need to be. They just need to be capable of playing in our current system and against defences that are happy to sit back and defend for a point, which none of our current strikers are.

Liverpool have bought a bunch of good, young players to go into their squad of good, older players.

We already have a great squad, we're only three or four clever signings away from having an exceptional squad.

i agree...however...doing business early has several benefits

lower prices before the end of the window
more players are still available the earlier we act
and perhaps most important - a longer and better pre season to get settled in
