Since when did we become too good to try to pluck players from the lower leagues?

Last time I checked players like Joe Hart started with clubs like Shrewsbury. If we had a bit of foresight we could have bought one of the best goalkeepers in the world for £600k back in 2006. I bet people would have said "Joe Hart? Fuck that. He's a League Two goalkeeper! What the hell? We're Tottenham fucking Hotspur, dammit!!!"

Agree with this. but then so does the club. Bale, Lennon, Walker, Dawson they were all plucked young from lower league clubs. some of our young gk's coming through are well thought of by Parks as well.

Yeah but Joe Hart was 19/20 back then, Steven Fletcher is 25. Also Joe Hart wasn't a complete secret, Man United tracked him and could have had him for £100,000 but Fergie wasn't sure.

I didn't see nobody complain when we splashed out £8m on Dawson and Reid and the same amount for Naughton and Walker.

You pluck players from the lower leagues when they can still develop.

In the case of Fletcher he isn't even a lower league player, the guy has been in the PL last 3 seasons and you can't blame him for his club's relegation. I just think the expectations is so much lower at those team, and nobody put you under the spotlight if you go 8/9 games without a goal. Over there, when fit, he plays all the time and the play is focused around him as the goalscorer - he wouldn't get as many chances at Spurs as he'd probably be a sub coming on for the last 10 mins or so. I don't think he is clinical enough.

I know a lot of people can give Dan a hard time, and Dan, to be fair, you push buttons.

But has anybody ever noticed Dan's knowledge of Agents. It can come in very handy and he deserves some props for being there with that info from time to time.

Cheers

Clinical is one thing he is mate. He has the best chance conversion % in the league.

using the above article, have people spoke about the fact lennon obviously was the main difference between our good and bad form this season? I dont think hes got the credit he deserves, if remy is comingin as a direct replacement i think money is better spent elsewhere

Remy won't be a replacement though. This gives us options.

Fletcher on the cheap as 3rd/4th choice would be ok, especially if Saha and defoe move on. Would be good to keep ADE and add likes of Leandro or Remy first though

it is a squad game, however harry is our manager which unless he is forced through injury.... means that players who are sub that have cost a lot is a waste of money? Can you see Remy up as a 1?

Great point. When fit, Aaron Lennon had a really good season and has some really brilliant games. I know Bale is awesome but Lennon does not get any credit for the shifts he puts in.

Everyone keeps assuming Fletcher will be cheap, why? Charlie Adam cost Liverpool £8m from relegated Blackpool. Your looking for £8m-10m for Fletcher I reckon. Why? He has 2 years left on his contract and Wolves have parachute payments meaning they don't need to sell yet.

Anyway it seems he is gonna go to Sunderland, where he will probably score 12 goals! So we can close the door on that
