I personally think two targets have been identified. Levy will only deal if the terms are right for the club. I think he will at least try, and since both teams appear difficult to deal with leaving it to the last minute makes sense in this scenario. If he fails both will be available cheaper in the summer, and as others have said we do have players that can fill in, though not ideal. I also believe that us not tying up the dembele deal may be because we will have one last try at berahino. If that's a no go then dembele can quickly be tied up if his medical and terms are sorted. Possibly saido deal could determine whether dembele comes now or in the summer if indeed we have interest in both.

Do you'd rather run Kane into the ground and play someone out of position instead because its a risk that the player may not adapt straight away?

Every transfer is a risk and there's never a guarantee attached but a player who has proven he can score goals in the PL, who can play with Kane as well as on his own up front is a risk worth taking. If he doesn't hit the ground running then at least he has 6months to adapt for next season when we'll no doubt need someone when Kane needs a break after the Euros (like he should have had after 21s this season).

It's not only the need for a striker in case of an injury. It's to protect a young player who would otherwise have to play a ridiculous amount of games in a PL season. The long term impact of fatigue/overuse is a worry too.

I'm saying that it's more likely that buying a new striker just for the sake of it, like Charlie Austin, Rhodes etc. is short termism and wouldn't replace Kane adequately either for a rest or if/when injured. So you've wasted money on a player/squad space and wages on a player who isn't good enough or who wouldn't fit in automatically, just for the sake of having a backup striker, when realistically the same output you would have got from an existing youth striker or say NC, Son etc.

So if you analyse in these terms, it's not despicable mismanagement or short sighted profit protection. It's actually quite the opposite. It's calm, calculated long term approach....Too many times have I seen panic buys like a Frazier Campbell, Gregorz Raziak, Pavylchenko, Saha, who just increase to an unbalanced, unhappy and bloated squad, just to appease fans.

And like hell he wouldn't be interested in Embolo, who is almost a complete forward at age 18.

If we're smart we'll go back in for one or two of those names in the summer if we've got a CL place.
That's it though.. Embolo is not going to be sold this window same as Batshuyi.. what do you do pay way over the odds & if you tdid they could'ny play in EL.. Juventus supposedly were pushing for Embolo.. in that case there's a chance they would deal on Morata.. but it's all extortionate prices for players that are not cup-tied.. & player has to want to move

I just have a feeling that we really don't have good scouts on continental-based talents. There are so much talents in Germany alone and the going rates for these talents are like less than half of what you'd pay in England. For example, Lars Stindle was picked up for less than 5m by Moenchengladach, and I think he would've made a fine 2nd striker for Kane. And of course, Dortmund paid about 10m for Aubameyang (we had a good chance to get him. we really messed up on that one). The talents are there, you just have to find them.

Makes sense if you look at it logically, also & I wouldn't be at all surprised if that lad from Barca arrived on loan.. we were there midweek, enough noise in media earlier in the window to be possible..

Not forgetting Lewandowski, who cost Dortmund a whacking great £3m...

Interesting you said Stindl.. not really a striker.. very similar to Kruse.. but there's a player at Twente who has on the very rare occasion played as a striker when he was at Herenveen & now Twente.. ridiculous technical ability.. caught up in that Doyen third party ownership though

So we didn't sign Son and Wimmer from Germany? Or Dier and Njie from the continent?

We have a real shot for the first since rednapp was in charge. Overall we are in good shape but we need another striker. Oi levy make it happen. It's alright saying "he can fill in here, or poch can play him up top if Kane gets injured"

We need another striker, as much as I like chadli and son there is no substitute for a strikers instinct

I wonder if you mean Hakim Ziyech? he's certainly known for his technical ability.

Just because we didn't get this Stindle doesn't mean our recruitment doesn't look outside. As others have pointed out ,we still buy from Germany. Wimmer the prime example. In January, I agree with Poch - we need to focus on PL players or players playing in UK. They give us the maximum chance of success
