Really, really stupid to sell Palacios. After Kanoute, the worst sale of a player that we were under no pressure to sell at all.

BC, I think IOMLS encapsulated the clubs thinking correctly yesterday when we were talking about Lennon

I guess the Lennon thing makes sense in terms of him being one of the players who we might be able to make some significant money on and Palacios is probably the other. I think both are very good players and certainly not the first names we would actively look to get rid of. But combined they could bring in £40m and I doubt any other combination of non-essential players could do that.

If that can help us to bring in more critical pieces of the puzzle that would have to be considered a step in the right direction

As much as I don't really want to sell Wilson,Parker is much the better player.

Also its hard to play 'total football' with Palacios who sometimes struggles to pass a ball 10 yards.
Love him to death for his defensive qualities but he has been superceded with a better and more complete player in Sandro.

out of interest MilkyBarSpur, why aren't you called MilkyBarYid?

Funny you should say that, I play black ops alot and my name on that is MilkyBarYid, however, yesterday someone reckons they are going to report me to Treyarch for inciting rascism. I was playing on a UK server.

I might ask A&C if he would mind changing it for me on here.

As I've said all along, if we are bringing "critical pieces of the puzzle" - ie genuine top drawer upgrades I'm always OK with that, but we would have to bring in a fucking good footballing busy **** like Diarra and even he would only be a marginal upgrade. I can only think of a couple of footballing busy ***'s that are better than Palacios playing in the EPL. DeJong, Diaby on a good day, Mikel. Sandro is a better ball winner, but he's not a better all round player - yet.

I guess we just have different definitions of non-essential.

i think newcastle beat them that game so maybe not haha.. just kidding. i got bored after one first paragraph. if you have good players with a brain not much need for all that shit

Haha, that is an oxymoron if ever I heard one. Players with a brain?? Anyway the Villas Boas report is obviously not for the players, it was for Mourinho so that he could get his team set up for the game right. I doubt they'd ever tell players that kind of stuff it would confuse the hell out of them.

I'd prefer Palacios over all of those (except DeJong but we have no chance). If we are going to bring in another central midfielder I think we should bring in another solid player who can dictate play. Someone in the mold of Xabi Alonso would be much more preferable alongside Sandro.

I actually don't think we'll be able to get an upgrade on Palacios in his role and I'd be stunned if we were actively trying to push him out. More that we are getting lots of offers for him when we aren't getting offers for the so called 'deadwood'.

14m for a 4th choice central midfielder is just too good to turn down. I would rather we sold jenas for half that but if no one wants him it won't be easy

Interesting about Sherwood watching Souleymane, but I'd have been shocked if we didn't have people there watching it and he scored 4 goals against Denmark, so I'd imagine most sides in Europe had someone watching against Brazil.

We won't get him. Even if he really is 16 he still already looks a little bit special:

Marca is probably the least trustworthy paper on the planet. There are more accurate rumours in the North Korean Times.

Haha, but the way he shifts and shoots, the reaction after the keeper spill and especially the way he burst down the byline and slotted across the goal are things that would be nice if done by a Spurs striker.

The cynic in me says he looks like a 19 year old playing against 16 year olds though.

Yes i can imagine the birth certificate of Mr Souleymane says 16 but his birth may not have been registered for a 'few' years or he has the same magical birth genes as Kanu.....

'Raised by a cretin' could be an anagram for raised by AC/inter

Ibra maybe? Can't think of any others

That's the best answer I've heard for that clue. Can't think of too many other players though - Crespo and Seedorf, but both are too old now aren't they?

I guess it depends if he wants to move. You could sign a very good replacement for £14M. And I don't necessarily mean Scott Parker.
