This is obviously a smoke screen for the signing of Rossi. Is it our first smoke screen of the window?

:rofl:smokescreen for Rossi, that would be funny. Leaking that we are going for an unknown only to buy one of Europes best.

Just re-read the goats ITK, people were banging on about the statue of liberty, and even this cup, can't see where that came from though, anyone know?

Gio's brother? Fellow countryman? This is a bit like horoscopes really, if you think hard enough you will find a link somehow. (not ITK bashing btw, just saying that cryptics can be twisted to mean anything you want it too. Kaka anyone?)

They are ment to do that, kinda pointless in a way, but can be fun. If someone can come up with one answer, and there only being one answer, then the it is likely that the leak would be found and sacked...

Because the deal could still be upset if not completed!?

yes, but nobody is going to get it, and in all honesty no will care enough for it being worth made being cryptic. Its something I would only mention the whole thing to people, or keep it to myself if not possible

or if you have gone to the lengths of making 3 cryptic you may as well go all the way and make the 4th cryptic too.

So all the cryptic is about big money signings only then?? How do you work that out? If he has signed then why wouldnt he be part of it, just because of his value?

Fair enough, but how many clubs do you suppose are after him? I consider myself to be fairly up to speed on who's hot etc, but his name only rang a very small, very faint bell. May as well have a cryptic about ME signing just in case Man City decide to sabotage our plans.

(they offered me 100k a week, and a 6-iron signed by Craig Bellamy as a signing-on fee btw.)

The sensible people with the good info, don't make cryptics for the fun of it, a 4th line of cryptic about a player no one has ever heard of, which has been mentioned before in this window btw is risking someones job for no reason.

Its not about big money signings, its about the fact nobody has ever heard of him. Even Wikipedia give him only two lines, no one knows a thing about him. I doubt anyone who has posted on this thread has ever scene him play.

The whole he played and got big in the coppa libertadores which is linked to the liberty stadium, which is the home of Swansea is the most tedious forced link you can come up with. Its almost like one of my joke links where you link any cryptic to fit into a player in question. And for the record Leandro also got famous in the coppa libertadores final not some quarter final which Pedroza's team ended up losing anyway!

. Says he has had trials at arsenal and chelsea on one of the articals! Maybe one of them were still interested slightly? We obviously like him hence signing him. So to lose out on a player by making it public would be silly. Rossi or this guy.. imo. Hope he is class, cant see it tho. Need a biggy to quench me transfer obsession!!

Will have to agree to disagree then mate!! Unless you know for certain? Cus the itk was about players signing and he has. Not that it matters anyway. We are all in it together and we all want a quality forward line. nite.

OK, thanks for clearing up the liberty link. My comment re the cryptics was tongue in cheek btw, I was actually backing up a comment regarding keeping the name quiet to prevent other teams snatching him. Just because most of us have never heard of him doesn't mean he is unknown to scouts and the like. He had trials at the arse and chelscum apparently.

So how legit is this link anyway, anything more official than a tabloid snippet?

Maybe it wasn't put in a cryptic because it might scupper the deal etc, but more rather because if we got given the name of this unknown dude straight up, then the sources identity could be revealed, leading to trouble for leaking.

ie. the cryptic was protecting the source, not so much the deal or it getting in the press.

I mean, there could maybe be only a handful of guys at the club that know about a deal for an unknown like this, if the club wanted to keep it that way.

Whatever. None of the cryptics were about this kid. You guys are grasping at straws. These itk's post the most generic info as possible so they can't be proven wrong. This came out of left field and there wasn't a solid bit of ITK about it whatsoever. Still hoping we sign Rossi though.

It makes sense for cryptics to be used on the low profile cheap targets, such as Pedroza, and the very high profile (I want to say Kaka here but I may get shot), and less so for the inbetween targets that we are expected to go for IMO. I can see where COYS is coming from re protecting jobs due to leaked info, but if anyone saw the cryptics they would prob get fired anyway. Maybe 1 they would get away with, but 4?!? If you knew all the targets and saw a set of cryptics that match these I'm sure they would suss them out

How quick is this Mexican lad? Young Owen quick?

think so, he looked very quick, you can look at them yourself, a lot of the highlights are on youtube. But it is always very hard to tell on just snippits. Looks quicker then, say, Hernandez.

Also although he is listed as being 5ft 8 1/2 in he looks smaller, maybe its because he has a slight build, or simply that the team shirt he wears is baggy.

If we have signed him, he's a relatively cheap prospect that will probably be loaned out this year, a million pound gamble on his future. He's not even a regular for his team in the Mexican league, not one of the two strikers were looking to buy to start for us this season.

No, there is nothing generic about the cryptic. It's just bloody hard - well, two or three of them were. We'll reveal who they are later in the window once - as COYS points out - it won't affect a) someone's job, and b) the chances of us getting info from the source again.

And, as Rob and A&C have commented, it's amazing how superbly many posters have 'solved' the clues. Lots of answers given are not only plausible but seem like they have to be right. But they're not.

In that way, cryptic clues are a pain in the arse. But I think 99% of people have enjoyed them in the spirit that they are intended and remembered that these are only rumours (like all ITK) at the end of the day. Nothing is guaranteed to happen.
