Love Nabil is our best CM and probably best prospect at the club. But what the hell is wrong with such young guys? Seriously he hasnt scored a fkn goal in the Premier League yet and demands to be a top earner at the club after 1 1/2 decent seasons. Should be happy that we gave him a shot to save his career and develop. Will earn enough his career. Nothing wrong with negotiating but sometimes I could slap them for their ridicoulos demands.

You did not answer the question.

As to your question - if he is asking for £80k - then he is not expecting £80k. His agent will have done the research and come up with a figure that represents market value for someone of Bentaleb's ability (not his age or experience). The player thinks he is at one level, the club presumably thinks he is unproven at that level, and wants to see it repeated before paying for that level. Both positions are reasonable imo.

He has been offered around £40k a week. What we consider to be market value. He is asking for £80k. Negotiations have been going on for 9 months. He either signs or is sold. Levy will not have another Judas.

Take football out of the equation.

You are 2 years out of university, when you replace some senior members on a team at your company. You team is delivering huge profits, and you are considered a key member of that team.

Now, because you were hired out of university, you are on £20K per year. You learn that the members of the team that you replaced, and are now doing their job better than they were, were earning £50K per year. You have been told you are a key member of the team, and your contributions have helped deliver the profits. You also have a headhunter whispering in your ear that a competitor company is willing to pay you £80K per year.

What do you do?

Do you say nothing and continue to accept that your wages are reasonable based on your age? Do you take significantly less than market value to stay at your company and hope they recognize your value down the road? Do you negotiate with your company, explaining your value, and ask for market value? Do you simply go to the competitor without negotiating with your current employer?

You do what every other hard working person does and get continuous service and performance based pay awards/rises and if you keep acting like you're too big for your boots, you'll be shown the door. Football is slightly different but being a cocky little shit and demanding ridiculous wages will result in Levy teaching him a lesson and making him see out the remainder of his £20k or so a week contract whilst training and playing with the kids. No player is bigger than the club and especially not a spoilt brat, no matter how talented he may be.

Mmmmmn I'm not so sure, worst case he still has another 2 seasons before a last year of contract sale. I think him wearing the shirt recreationally speaks volumes of his intentions... Let's wait and see, I just hope he throws a few brasses our way and a ton of 'Andy dufresne' our way out of his 80k! :D

I believe his contract runs out next June.

On that we agree. I am just not going to vilify Bentaleb (not suggesting you were) for asking for something above what the club considers market rates.

And, I am not going to vilify the club if they refuse to pay it either.

I think both sides have a reasonable position - from their own perspective.

FFS, anyone bitching about him on here would do the exact same, I love the club but jesus christ of course i'd ask for the maximum! why the fuck would he just accept Levys offer without even trying for more? thats why its called contract negotiations!

if levy has offered like 40k and NB asked for 80 they will meet at 50 or 60! of course this is what the likes of Dembele, Paulinho, Holtby, Capoue etc would all be on and he has benched all of those so he's well within his rights, get a fucking grip acting as if you wouldn't do it too fuck me!

Wow. This is tedious.

Maybe tedious and probably off topic but I get really cheesed off with players' wage demands and their parasitic agents leeching off the game.

We do pay their wages after all.

That is all. No offence to anybody on here.

I think we should give him 50-55K. If we are to replace him (a home grown player no less), we'll need to spend premium - about 15-20 million is my guess and give the new guy 60-70K. In Nabil we have a guy that loves the club and obviously very talented. Give him 55K now, tie him to a 5 year contract and promise him another raise next summer if he keeps improving. 55K for 5 years is 14,3 million. Less than we'll have to spend to replace him. It's a no brainer for me.

If we replaced him with a proven player you mean. Something he isn't yet - he's had a season and a half, and has yet to find consistency.

Veljkovic, Alli, Carroll, Winks.... we have potentially more Bentalebs in stock; it's all about sending the right message. After all, would Mason then be entitled to £55k a week?

Nine months they have been negotiating. He's trying to do a Sol.

And if the negotiations have been ongoing for 9 months, it seems Bentaleb valued himself at 80k (allegedly) after half a season. Needs to stop believing his own hype. He might become a great player but he's miles off being one at the moment.

That is not how real life works.

In real life, if you apply for a position that pays £50k, and you earn that position, then you can expect to be paid £50k - whether you have 1 year of experience or 20 years. If you have been hired to do that job, your employer is satisfied with your level of expertise - otherwise they would have stuck with the more experienced option.

I am sceptical of your experience of this, as it's really not what I've experienced.

I've sat in work at one of the biggest companies in the world and have been on half the wage of guys sat around me who did half the work - they had 25 years more experience though. Had the same experience working in one of the top 4 banks. It's reality.

What he's essentially doing is learning how to cook a steak and then asking to be paid more than Gordon Ramsey because he thinks his food tastes better.

The problem market value is what other clubs are prepared to pay him.
We don't know what he has been told he can get if he signs elsewhere.

If I were offered double the money elsewhere, I would be looking for a pay rise, as I am sure nearly all of us would. Not saying he has been tapped up, but he wouldn't have plucked a random figre out of the air without some back up,

Now it is down to Levy if he wants to, call his bluff, Pay him or let him go elsewhere.

I think we should give him 50-55K.

what, just as a token of appreciation from SC?

"Thanks for getting us all pissed off tonight Nabil.

We weren't content with June already, but you've really put a dampener on things and it feels great.

Here - have half of next week's wage on us. Knock yourself out. Cheers."

The club should set a limit. £50-55k max!!!! If he's not happy, show him the door. No player is bigger than the club. Especially a player who has done nothing to earn that amount. He's played well some parts of this season but also had some shocking games where he's given away pass after pass. Prove you're a top player who can boss games in the middle of the park before demanding top wages.

There is a key vice-president spot open at your company. You apply for it, and through the interview process, you are hired for the position.

Do you ask for wages commensurate with the position, or with your age?

If you ask for wages based on your age and experience, then you are selling yourself short. Now it amy be that the company won't pay you the same as someone with 25 years of experience, but if they are not close, you should consider whether you accept that position. Because you will be doing the same work as the more experienced employee, and your employer found you more suitable for the job...

Is it the ITK starting with "I have no idea what he's asking for" that makes people jump to the conclution that Bentaleb is demanding £80k a week to sign his new contract? As far as I've seen, no ITK clearly states what Bentaleb is asking? Might as well be him asking 50 and the club offering 30-35, which is still a considerable gab between the sides.

Talking about Judas and others telling him to fuck right off seems a bit...harsh at the moment..
