Paint it however you want, Mitchel and co. leaving being announced mid TW is not a positive thing.
Hardly mid window though is it? The way I see it is that Mitchell decided to leave before the window even opened and now that our business is primarily done he is heading off. It's not exactly disrupting our plans for the season. We've done our key deals and we leave on good terms with Mitchell. Nothing to see here.
Across the net people are claiming that Mitchell is leaving because Poch preferred Njie to GKN. Is there any actual ITK that supports this or are people just drawing speculative conclusions?
Not true if Mitchell handed his notice in 3 months ago before the whole N'Jie/Nkoudou deal came about. Even though the Nkoudou deal feels like 3 months.

One of my concerns, though there could also be an upside, is that they both know the strength of the Spurs youth coming through.
Go to the right clubs and they might dangle carrots and some may be tempted.
Alternatively, they might help to present opportunities for players to go on loan.

Hopefully the latter. Not sure Derby or Leicester would be an ideal loan move for any of our players with Ranieri and Pearson, though.

Guess we'll have the traditional Tottenham Hotspur final week shop around.

Didn't think it was gonna happen this time round. My ignorance amuses me

Not if Poch overruled Mitchell on the Njie-NKG swap. Poch has always said he prefers stability and minimal transfers, so maybe this marks the end of our summer business (bar the seemingly inevitable Bentaleb, Yedlin and Chadli departures).

Absolute bollocks on every level. If Poch wanted to keep Njie he wouldn't be anywhere near leaving. And the idea that someone in the scouting department has any say whatsoever in what players leave or stay at the club is complete and utter fantasy land.

In what way mate? We got the two holes in our squad filled relatively quickly with players the manager wanted. The KGN stuff is dragging but I can assure you it has nothing whatsoever to do with Mitchell.
I obviously defer to your knowledge of what's actually going on Trix. As a passive observer I can only go on hunches based on a career which has involved managing negotiations in a tricky political climate.

I appreciate Spurs position having to avoid direct competition with the big clubs until we can get the stadium built and join them. We are doing well and do seem to be working well to a plan but just recently there seems to have been a few cracks appearing. So far we have held on to our good players and bought early.

My concern was that the team doesn't start to split. For instance the rumour that Poch wanted one player and Mitchell another. Good communication should have sorted that out. Levy would need no further excuse to get even more involved.

Maybe Poch just lost faith in marginal moneyball churn and Mitchell felt undermined?

Poch's organic growth coaching philosophy doesn't sit naturally with a high churn of personnel.

The way Premier League sides can spend now sort of means Moneyball is dead in the water.

For example. Palermo quoted 30m when Spurs were linked with Vazquez. Goes to Sevilla for 15m.

On the most part, Prem clubs have to pay up because every other club knows they are loaded. The Janssen deal was excellent in that respect. But to improve on what we have now... it's going to cost a bit.

Maybe not, but we're not Man City. To bring a player in of the quality you would want but then expect him to sit on the bench for the majority of the time can only happen if we were in a position to throw money at the individual.

If we just bought one quality AM in why would he sit on the bench a majority of the time ? injuries rotation means he would play as much as the other's !

Maybe Mitchell got offered a shit load more money elsewhere, maybe he wanted a new challenge, maybe he's an alien here to destroy gut feeling with highly evolved statistical models, maybe he's a terminator sent from the future to kill the saviour of mankind, John Connor, maybe...

Yeah, said the same last night. Maybe Mitchell and the other fella felt they were treading water with us settled and already having obvious youth candidates coming through into the squad. Hopefully Levy nabbed any lists they were working on first too... ;-)

I'd call this as bullshit of the highest order... For it to be true Mitchell would have to be something of a precious little bitch.
Exactly, it was his job to identify players the manager would want, if he wasn't doing that and had a strop over differences in opinion then he's no great loss...

That's how it looks currently (assuming Chadli goes). You're right, there will be more sales and hopefully more purchases!

I don't mind the drying up of ITK on the Spurs side if we don't get gazumped. What I do mind is the lack of ITK from other clubs regarding our potential outgoings. Or does it mean no interest. Unless we ship out Chadli, Bentelab etc it means no incomings.

He or someone else is going to be sitting on the bench for a majority of the time. Davies and Trippier played a lot last season, but do you think that if someone like Liverpool came in and offered first team football as the first choice starter, they wouldn't seriously consider the move? Of course they would. Same for any player that has the desire to succeed in the game and not just pick up their wage. And seeing as Poch only wants players of that ilk, the likelihood of buying someone who is of high enough quality, with the right mindset to play for us is low. Sign a quality player for a speratic AM role - one of the most difficult roles to fill, all whilst fighting off any other potential suiters who are probably more able to offer certain first team football, possibly better wages considering our wage restrictions and financial position. Not as easy as it sounds when you say - "if we just bought one quality AM"

Totally... It's a tall order to believe his resignation came after a falling out over the potential quality of a couple of fringe players.

I meant more in this hypothetical sense:

- Last summer the black box predicted Njie would be a 83/100 player, whereas Townsend would only reach 78. We go and invest £11m in him. Poch likes him and thinks he can coach him into a useful player

- This summer the black box predicts GKN will be a 85/100 player and Mitchell tells Poch to ditch Njie to get him in. Poch doesn't think the extra money and lost year of coaching is worth that moneyball potential fractional gain

Maybe no one apart from the parties actually involved have a clue what's gone on. I'm sure Poch knows that the the future of the club is bigger than Mitchell and won't dictate if he stays or goes.
Really don't get all this panic, pretty sure only one man decides who comes and goes and it's not Mitchell. I'm pretty sure I read somewhere that Poch's positionat the club was strengthened when he sighed his new contract.
Id take it as a given that Poch will have a say in who replaces Mitchell so no worries in my book

Can we now move the Mitchell talk over into the thread in Spurs chat please? It doesn't make sense to have it going on in two threads.

What are these, FIFA ratings?

Lads, we've lost a fucking head scout... that's it. It's like the guy who orders printer cartridges in your office quit. Yeah, he was really good at it - he could predict when the cartridges would need replacing, was top notch at getting the cartridges cheap and he saved the company a couple of quid, but at the end of the day, he was the fucking printer cartridge guy.
