I think people need to understand that it's a difficult window. Real Madrid haven't been able to replace Ronaldo, despite their lure and finances.

Let's have faith in Danny boy to pull something out of the hat.

Real Madrid have 4 weeks left, and are only just getting their world cup players back in training. They signed Bale on deadline day in the end. The quietness of their rags suggests they might have similarly big stuff going on behind the scenes.

We on the other hand have 7 days left, and have signed no one. Utd and Chelsea are supposedly struggling but have both bought CMs that would walk into our starting XI, especially as we are trying to flog dembele. There's a limit to how much a bad window can stop you doing business. We're letting it be an excuse as much as anything in my eyes.

First post in this thread but I’m reading pretty much every hour ( away on holiday as well) but I’m not feeling the depression. I still think we’ll get at least two probably three signings that will challenge for a first team slot. The ITK as a whole seems to back this up.
It’s frustrating yes but it’s pretty obvious it’s incredibly difficult and although DL likes to play poker he’s been very good for the club and he wants the club to do well. I don’t believe he’ll risk all his good work by pissing off MP and everyone else. He wants the best deals which is only right but if he can’t win this hand he won’t lose it.

If they have the choice to leave and say no, chuck them in the reserves. It's not exactly like we are keeping them prisoner if what you're saying about Ali saying they don't want to leave is true.

Fans talk a lot about loyalty these days - it's a two way street. You can't be mad at the Berbatovs, Modrics and Bales of this world for wanting to leave the moment they decide they are good enough to, and yet advocate neglecting players at the moment you think they're not good enough to stay.

Dembele has been an excellent player for us - I'd be furious if we treated him like an outcast just so we could bring in someone like Grealish. I'm still upset at how JJ said he was treated by us, even if he wasn't that lucky with form and fitness.

Why can't we just go for our targets and not register the non HG players we want to move on? I know wage wise this isn't the best solution, but surely we can loan a few of these players out at a later date when the transfer window closes for us at worst?

We can, Levy doesn't want to as he will lose leverage when negotiating their deals to leave.

What are you talking about? They won't be playing for us anyway so dropping them makes no difference at all!

These guys are getting paid £75k, £95k per week. Football these days is a squad game. Are you seriously telling me we should run the risk of not fulfilling our potential because of loyalty to a player like Llorente who had previously turned us down in the past when he went to Serie A instead? Come on man there's loyalty and there's hanging yourself up to dry.

We pay them a good wage, if they refuse to leave tell the, they aren't part of our plans like dozens of players, senior and at youth level are told each year and give them the option to find another club or not get any first team football. If they dig their heels in, then so should we. Nobody is bigger than the club

The problem is, they need to agree with them - Ali Z seems to be of the opinion that the players aren't accepting the moves. I'm not sure exactly what we're expected to do as a club.
Call the players bluff is all the Club can do and it’s a massive risk. Press on and sign the players we need in order to demonstrate to the players we need shifting that there is no place in the squad for them. They can then either drop their own demands with new Clubs and move on or sit on the sidelines until the January window.

If they choose to sit on their backsides, then it will hit the club financially, but improving the squad beforehand should be the priority - particularly when the other European leagues can still buy from us after our Window to buy has shut i.e. we still have time to shift the deadwood once our window closes.

I think the players we need to move on are aware of the Clubs need to sell to free up HG spaces or whatever and think they hold the Aces.

If anyone needs to get Levy’d right now, it’s the guys we need to sell!

still think poch's no 1 target is martial with a HG cm (grealish) and with he's toby card levy thinks he can pull it off, if not TRY go big on a non HG class cm with zaha the HG player.

both could happen without selling and both HG players lined up ducks waiting to pull the trigger once/if there's a breakthrough

and the1 in 1 out info is about rose/dembele and toby if he's not swapped in a deal

Ali Z:

Personal opinion but I feel we have made a huge mess of this window all be it with some things going against us. If we have any incomings they will be HG, that limits us hugely in what we can bring in, we were expecting Toby, Dembele, GNK, Sissoko,Jansen and LLorente to attract interest and fully expected 4/5 of them out, the first two seemed to price themselves out of the market, whilst any potential suitors are waiting till our window closes to get there bargains, still think we will get 1/2 in and that a few will go, probably after our window closes.

Problem should be sorted going forward ad Dembele and LLorente have 1 year left on deals and Toby will almost certainly go sooner or later.

This is going to be part of the problem, I expect - we can plan to sell players, but we can't plan whether they make it easier or not.

If the club continue this back to front thinking all that is going to occur is we last minute attempt to sign a player, selling club telling us it's too late to replace said player. Or we panic and buy someone who means we're in exactly same position in future Windows.

If his opinion is how our strategy has been this window I don't know what we've been hoping for, we'll have known a long time we're not getting acceptable buyers for those players. It's bizarre how we seem completely fine with idea that it's likely we may not sign anyone. Can't wait till this window is shut.

I have no issues with Dembele staying, he has been a valuable part of this club for many years. I do have a big problem with GKN, Sissoko and Llorente because we should never have bought them in the first place. Saying that, I do feel sorry for them as it’s not their fault. Especially Llorente I feel sorry for as he really didn’t have much of a chance here and we don’t play the kind of football suitable for him to shine. But now we are sort of fucked. Nobody really wants them and Levy being Levy will want to recoup as much as he can from them. At this point I just don’t see this ending favourably as it will essentially mean Levy spending money on players that will take our squad to over the allowed foreign limit and hoping he can sell for his value (or loose significant money) after the window closes. It’s a sort of a catch 22 and Levy isn’t a gambler.

It is absolutely laughable if we are using the fact that we haven't shifted fringe players as an excuse not to bring in the players the manager wants, homegrown or not. Especially since we've got an additional 3 weeks to sell or loan them to European clubs once our window closes. Absolute fucking madness if true and the very antithesis of being brave (irrespective of what Poch meant by that)

it's not just that they are fringe players it's a case of at the moment we have a squad size of 28, and to many non HG (sorry A&C), it will be bad enough if we don't shift them before the rest of Europe close their window. We can't consider Martial unless we sell 1 of our non HG, due to PL rules and the damage it will cause to have a full squad in the CL

Exactly. You can't force players to make a move that isn't right for them. It really wouldn't look very good on us if we stuck a world cup winner in the reserves a year after signing him . We'd probably get the PFA on our back as well. It doesn't really fit in with Poch's philosophy of treating everyone with respect either.

Why can't we just go for our targets and not register the non HG players we want to move on? I know wage wise this isn't the best solution, but surely we can loan a few of these players out at a later date when the transfer window closes for us at worst?

You're probably talking about £5m in wages. It's a big gamble when we probably have agreements with the banks about what our wage bill will be. Plus any players that don't move will see their transfer value drop massively.

I'm sure we'll move a few players on before deadline day though.
