Sandro will play nearly every game next season if fit. Parker signing wont jeopardise this, not even our 'Arry is that stupid :???:

That'll depend on the interest from other clubs. If the likes of Liverpool and Arsenal are interested then it won't matter whether Wet Sham are in a mess...they'll still be able to drive the fee up.

Yes but those clubs aren't stupid. They won't pay over the odds for him either.

i cant believe we are sigining freidel...honestly...jeezus wept!

if we sell gomes it will bite us in the arse...he is 30, he will be coming into his prime & he will make less & less mistakes...for sure...

plus on his day, he is simply the best keeper in the world! (imo)

I would find the signing of Freidel desperately disappointing. :-(

We need to be bringing in better than what we already have and people can't even use the excuse that Freidel would be a sideways step because he isn't as good as Gomes.

When Gomes is at his best I'd agree but unfortunately he's been at his worst quite alot this season.

The rationale behind someone like Friedel is presumably that, even if he doesn't make some of the spectacular saves that Gomes can make, he'll be more reliable generally and give the defence a bit more confidence in their keeper.

I don't like it because I thought Gomes was going to be our long term keeper after last season, but we can't afford for him to make the mistakes he's made this season again.

I'd argue that Friedel probably had a better season than Gomes in 2010-2011. If he can do that again whilst we drum up the cash for a long term replacement then I don't see the problem.

totally agree adie

I love Gomes and really rate him.
Brad Friedel would be fine as an experienced number 2, but we already have one of them.

If the plan is to go 4-3-3 then we're going to need some more midfielders as cover. If you go by the approach that you need 1 back up per position we'd currently have a backup midfield of Hudd, JJ and Palacios but I'd expect to see at least two of them leave.

Also where does the 4-3-3 leave VdV?

I don't Harry is such a visionary as to want to switch to 4-3-3 and then buying players to fit this. Remember he only switched to 4-4-1-1 because he couldn't fit VDV into a 4-4-2. Ha

Harry buys players and then thinks about how they will affect the team after. Remember his motto is "you can never have enough good players". The problem is you can have too many when you don't rotate. I just pray that Parker gets injured alot next season so Sandro plays more often than not.

I see the signing of Friedel like this.

Let's say you planned to buy a new home entertainment unit. You already have a very good TV which frustrates you a little at times but you can live with it. But you have budgeted and saved all year for the amp, the speakers and other bits and bobs. As it comes closer to crunch time to purchase these items, your TV decides its going to only display its pictures in 4:3 format and not widescreen. That frustrates you as you'll have to reduce the amount you are spending on your amp and speakers etc to purchase a new top quality TV.

OR

Your other option is to go on ebay and buy a used fairly decent make of TV that is able to display pictures in widescreen format just for a year or so for virtually nothing therefore allowing you to continue to buy the top quality items you needed to complete your home entertainment system.

Friedel is that TV.

yeah, except you're entering a "Home Entertainment System" competition and the people you want to beat have younger, better TVs lined up. And are also buying top quality amps and speakers.

Neither do I. I agree with this. We need some consistent solidity. Friedel can provide that for a year or so. Gomes provides solidity but 3 times out of 5 which is not good enough.

And please don't tell me that when Gomes comes to collect a ball at crosses or corners you don't look away?!

Well in that case I hope he gets a good reception at the Lane.

I really don't know where to begin with that amount of tripe.

We are rightly being budgeted and financed well by the club. If were assigned £40-50m then great. I don't expect suddenly just because Gomes has flopped that the board will go "Actually, here's another £20m I found somewhere for a top keeper."

Not overly enthused by the possibility of Friedel, however Gomes is clumsy, unpredictable and unreliable, his confidence is wafer thin at best and he has the concentration span of a two year old, he never communicates with the back four and he constantly feigns injury. He is fragile, volatile, has absolutely zero mental strength and quite frankly we need to get shot of him.

I like the analogy but you are forgetting about the ebay TV is the previous owner obviously saw something that made it want to see the back of it and not hang on to it for any longer.
