One slight issue: why do you go through all the long-hand of naming all of Citeh's strikers? Why not just say "an expensive flop like<generic Citeh striker>":shrug: :grin:

That's a very romantic thought, SP but we both know football doesn't work like that anymore.

All i'm saying is EXPECTING Levy to unveil some magical 'super-striker' is unrealistic.

Someone name me a striker in the £25 million+ bracket who doesn't...

A) Play for a club already in the Champions League
B) Currently earn more than what we pay our best players

And I'm not saying it will be 'easy' to convince that level of striker to the Lane, just that I am pretty sure we have could come up with the money to pay that type of fee, and our chances are not entirely forlorn.
Levy kows it is pretty much make-or-break, now, for his whole project, surely:shrug:

It also mentions that Arry can only spend 10m less than what we get from sales....sounds stupid to me.

By the way, this summer there are presidencial elections at At Bilbao so neither candidate would dare to sell Llorente at any price.... I would much prefer Rossi, but i think we wont get him for anything less than 30m pounds.

I dont think for one second that we wont spend this window. With the right money recouped in trimming the squad we should have funds to make the necessary improvements.

If we arn't going to show ambition its not going help with the likes with of Modric and the inevitable consequences.

Shifting a good few of these players is obviously integral in terms of our ability to spend this window, and to the balance the squad properly by reducing it and enhancing its quality at the same time.

Just saw that Rossi was at the Steve Nash charity match this week. Anyone who knows Nash will understand that must be a good thing if he managed to chew his ear a little

...who may well be on more than any of our players. Villa have form on paying big wages.

It's clear that we are operating at close to capacity re total wages. I don't think that people can reasonably argue with that point. We therefore need to clear out players earning a fair wodge who are bitpart at best (Keane, Bentley), and maybe one or two who will bring in great money but aren't first choice or are getting a bit older (Palacios, Defoe?) There are really only two schools of thought:

1) This is fair enough. We can't spend money we don't have.
2) This is not good enough. We have to speculate to accumulate.

I suspect that a fair chunk of the CL money went to bonuses and the wages of Gallas and VDV. It probably also gave us a safety valve, covering the wages of people like Woodgate, Keane and Bentley who had contracts but really weren't contributing. Loaning the latter may have saved us some money.

So the ITK I really want to hear is on selling players for loads of money (Palacios, Pav, Defoe).

I don't believe for one second that Levy was running around on Jan 31 desperately trying to spend 30m. At best he might have tried to pull off another VDV, offering 8-10m for people like Fabiano or Rossi.

And how much do you think we were prepared to pay for Suarez before we turned our noses up at him?
