Simple post but so well put.

Also you can substitute West Ham for Leeds, Portsmouth as well.

It's not quite that simple. Folks on our messageboards have been asking what will happen to Chelsea when Roman gets bored and leaves. Well here we are ten years later and he's just spent another small fortune on players. He's not going away and neither are the Sheiks at City.

Football is a rich mans game and ENIC just aren't rich enough.:(

People are entitled to their views but unless I'm proved wrong and I hope I am I can't see us doing anything under the current set up.

Other clubs granted got into debt but none of them have the income that we have the luxury of so we can't we even spend more than £20 million on a player that we not cause us to go under.

It's because we have owners that fuck about in the transfer market and try to squeeze every last pound out just utter nonsense, maybe that's why other clubs don't like dealing with us cos it's a long drawn out process.

But if some people on here are happy with the way that we don't do any business then I guess that's fine but I think we stink and we will probably suffer for it.

We have a 36k seater stadium mate you way over estimate the revenue that comes into this club, the vermin, Utd, City have double the capacity of us, we can't just go throwing stupid money about

You talk about 20m signings, look at 3 of our last 4 big signings - Rebrov, Bent, Bentley, great successes they were whereas Newcastle got Cisse, Cabaye, Tiote and Ba for combined total we paid for Bentley

Success isn't about throwing money about its about being smart in the transfer market

Let's not get bogged down in this chat.

It's not new, it's not relevant and most importantly, it's nothing to do with ITK.

We have finished in Europe consistently for the past few years, we have signed two excellent players, we have started to move out our 'deadwood' players. We have a new state of the art training ground, we have a new stadium on the way, we have an exciting new management team and it's not even August.

Ambition and success doesn't just come from transfers, we have a squad built in the right manner and a stable ground which will keep us around for years to come, all it would take for a team like Chelsea or Man City to suffer is the owners getting board and leave.

Ade will most likely be signed before the start of the season and possible a Modric replacement, this will leave us no weaker than last season and we won't have to worry with how our players will bed into the premier league.

I personally can't wait for this season to start and see how our current crop of players perform under a manager with good tactical knowledge

Please can this not descend into our "hopes and aspirations". It's really NOTHING to do with anything that should be in this thread.

Please.

This is bound to happen. God knows, I had my moment very recently. But we're in a weird place. We have a new gaffer, a gaping hole in our forward line (which has been there for a while), a need for change as a new system gets installed, a bloated squad (had at least) and we are a club that is notoriously slow on transfers. The latter might be hard on us as supporters but it's probably the best way to go when you don't have petrodollars. We all want the new players in by June 30th to mesh, but we can't do that because we have to negotiate price. It sucks sometimes. And it won't change with the new stadium. Without a sheik, we will still have to be intelligent in the market. But that's okay.

But I get the frustration. Right now we have Kane and Defoe. If creative we can count GDS as a third forward. But I'm not sure Defoe is a good fit for the new system and I'm not sure dos Santos is long for the club despite reports. So we have only one striker that we know will be here come September, and he's young. That's both awesome and scary. Ade is taking a long time, so unless we can repair whatever the heck is wrong there, we need at least one forward and depending on Defoe, probably two. And its the most expensive position to fill, so finding something within our budget is hard. We've also seen that midfield isn't quite finished as is. It's good, but needs something.

But if you are frustrated, I would try to view the market at a macro level rather than a micro level. Everybody is for sale and nobody can buy.....which makes it a buyers market and we have some money. But the buyer's market is thrown off by PSG, Chelsea and soon City over-paying for their players. Once they are done, teams like GiveUsCash F.C. will realize that 25 million for a 40 year old striker with a peg leg is a bit inflated and prices will come down. Look at us? We've sold 3 players. Not one for more than 6 million. That's the new market. And we want to be buying in that.

Also, let's give AVB credit. He has decided to work with the team before buying. That's a sensible approach. It's rather crazy when new managers make wholesale changes right away. The two "ins" were being worked on before he got here. After tomorrow, he returns after a month with the team and 3 decent matches. I think he'll be ready to make some judgments and we will see more ITK and possibly movement.

Just out of curiosity ..... if there's no ITK one day, should the thread be empty?

That would be a logical conclusion to reach.

I've been off work today and watched about 15 different sports. The Olympics is a lot more interesting than our transfer business, especially whilst we're on tour in a different country.

I suggest you all go to iPlayer to catch up on some very good Team GB performances.

the doom and gloom, toys out of the pram, why aren't we signing anyone, it's getting worse and worse day by day posts are very tedious as well.

The players are away, the management is away, and lots of other clubs are away. What do you expect? talks will go on behind the scenes and be announced when completed. Unlikely to be right now.

Exactly, I'm sure we getting more and more newbies, who just come into this thread and whine. Hence everyone gets wound up and has to argue back and then we have days like today

Indeed, especially as the team is on tour right now. Even if we were signing anyone there's no way it'd be completed until we got back!

Not really as we have Kane to cover the third spot and that means we need Ade and 1 more that can play up top on his own
No! We currently need to buy 2 strikers! If we sell Defoe we need 3 strikers. What happens if Adebayor goes African nations, and are other striker is injured. We're going to play Kane up top for a few weeks. We want top 4!!!! Not top 10.
I'm sick of hearing crap about we don't have money... Yes we do! We just choose to spend it wisely. Right now we need to spend it wisely on strikers. If we don't have money then let's stop discussing any transfer regarding players on 40-50k+. Tell levy to sign grant holt and tell Gary linaker we will pay him more than the bbc. Actually we can't afford him! Bring back Ronny Rosenthial.
Not having a go at you but some people think we will turn into leeds or portsmouth by signing a few big wage players. It's ridiculous!!!!
Rant over I'm going to bed and waking up to 2 striker signings.

Cue the optimistic ratings :)

You don't need four strikers when you play one up top. And VDV, GDS and Siggi can play a SS for that week you envision. Injuries suck, but they are part of the game and you have to be able to trust your kids if things go tits up

Well we lasted the last couple of seasons 3 strikers and not had much of a issue and that was with Ade and defoe, with Pav not going a look in, Kane covering one match isnt the end of the world and if he does well in Europa this season we just be wasting money on a 3rd striker we will never see like we did last year with Pav

Not if he can also play on the wings. Remy, hulk. Not saying we're singing them but that type of player.

Agreed better having Kane there than no one and no point spending money on striker we may never see and keeping him just in case one day we have lone men are injured

Ok let me rephrase my comment. If we sell Defoe, we need adebayor + 1 more who can play up top on his own. However IMO we also need 1 more forward who can play as a winger/ forward I.e like a remy or hulk type player.

I wouldn't mind a potential world class player just being the +1 and the striker with Kane in the wings(for a squad place and not actually on the wing) as then we can keep both players happy without frustrating the extra lone striker but thats just opinion

Oh most definitely. And I do think we will sell Defoe and will eventually need two.
