The only positive so far this window is we appear to finally be changing our wage structure to pay the players what they would get at other Top 6 clubs.

I remember being over the moon with the info after the January transfer window that great things had been achieved and would become evident in the coming days and weeks after that but unfortunately nothing materalised and then we heard one or two signings early and then after World Cup, still nothing obvious with over half of the transfer window gone.

If we can't attract the players we want at this point in our evolution with Poch wanting us to be brave then i worry a little.

Really hope we still do stella business and as always Herc, very many thanks for your updates, it's the hope that's a killer. :)

Would be a bit off an odd move to build a huge, beautiful stadium and not couple it with 1 or 2 statement signings.

Seems a bit two steps forward, one step back - which is admittedly quite a familiar feeling.

Having been through countless transfer windows things are slightly better now but we always know that a great deal of the 'attempts' to buy players end in failure and who knows some of them may even be deliberate rumours by the club to show pretend ambitions.

One thing for certain I don't ever expect the Rasiak window to be repeated so things are getting better.

I know how people feel. I am no different. But! There is still time for that ‘special signing’. Let me run and hide. Seriously though. One thing I know is Poch is being backed 100%. I know we will pay. Oh on right players. Rest is anyone’s guest.

Welcome home Gareth :)

Tell you what: let’s start next season with the best keeper left in the WC, Golden Boot front runner, best wide player in terms of providing scoring opportunities, two central midfielders who scare the s*** out of the opposition and several of the top centre-halves in the competition.

If we add to that, it’ll be awesome.

And, let’s face it, there’s a lot of players heading home now whose stock has not exactly risen over the past fortnight.

Don't bother getting disheartened. Pointless. It's what we always do. If somebody "special" is on the cards great, but it's not like we really expect it, is it?

Foolishly I did. New stadium, most expensive ticket prices in Europe, Poch signing a new contract etc. All the early indications were positive. I wasn’t expecting us to go on a mad spending spree but I was hoping we’d improve the scope of our ambition slightly.

That's the thing, it was good, but it's not good enough if everyone else is improving. We need to be making steps forward not treading water.

I think some of the ITK’s may have got ahead of themselves with the special signings, they seemed pretty convinced Levy was to make a statement this summer. Still time I know & securing Poch/Kane was fantastic however I’m not hearing the confidence in the ITK’s posts now.
I know we can’t make the selling club play ball but if the confidence was there to tell us we’d be happy with the dealings then surely ITK’s thought the deals were almost done?

We've gone from talking about signing the likes of Martial, De Ligt and Pulisic to Grealish and Plea.
Yeah but that pretty much happens every window to be fair; the targets get more realistic as the window goes on.

People were being wildly optimistic if they thought we were going to start buying those kind of calibre players. It's just not in keeping with the model we've been using for the last few years. Add the stadium funding to that as well.

The optimism has been fuelled by those who claimed it would be different this summer

Yeah I get that, but again, how many times have we heard that before only for it not to materialise? Pinch of salt and all that.

This is the ITK thread and ITK's were wildly optimistic about a change in approach by the club and i believe the ITK's so in your world the likes of me are gullible and the ITK's were/are fibbing ? :)

Very true but seemed plausible this time, I’ve got more time for our ITK’s that post on this site so when they were positive I believed...as I stated still time so don’t want to complain too much
