I think Marin will be used as a super-sub, just to add some different creativity if Mata/Hazard can't seem to get anything going.
I think it's about having a strong squad that can be rotated often without any discern able drop in quality and performance. They can, and will, challenge for all of the Top 4, Champions League, FA Cup and Carling Cup because of their squad depth.

I hope so, but I just keep thinking that Chelski and City have found some loopholes in the FFP rules, otherwise why would they keep spending like they have been?
Hasn't FFP basically been designed to prevent any "new" rich clubs doing what Chelsea and City have done?

Yea, an attempt to ensure the rich get rich and the poor stay poor basically. Protect the status quo, but at least it would on paper benefit a club like us who's ability to compete is not based on spending sums beyond our means so I really hope it does in some way clip the wings of the likes of City and Chelsea

C'mon!
Liverpool spent the entire 1980s playing Get a goal as quickly as possible and then see out the rest of the game with 80 yard back-passes to kicll the game off and win 1 - 0 football ;)

I believe the highest passing stats in that team belonged to Hansen, Lawrenson and Clemence.

Yeah, there are loopholes for everything and it seems they aren't holding back. UEFA make too much money taking care of the big clubs that not a whole lot will change. One would like to imagine that there would be more parity. FFP sounds good, but we'll see how it works out.

theproblem i have, is if you add modric to that teamfor example, or a player in the mould of modric you get

Mikel/Ramires Lampard/Modric

Hazard Mata Marin/Hulk

Torres (lakuku/sturridge/hulk)

This team worries me a lot more :(

Hulk and Marin are both very overrated, but otherwise agree - that is a very good looking team

No, I hear ya. I was talking from a future asset standpoint. If Krul/Lloris/similar are the GK of the now and future, then a few promising youngsters could net nice transfer fees down the line if they can't crack the match day lineup.

Butland, if he pans out, likely won't be a upper-tier keeper for another 5-8 years. Shit, Friedel might be on display in an Egyptian museum around then. We definitely need someone experienced and with reasonable longevity starting in '13-'14.

Agreed short term we need to find someone outsde Spurs with the experience - Button is the near term most likely to make it but in 13/14 is most liklely to be a back up goalkeeper (not no 1) at best, unless he gets a lot of run outs successfully in 12/13, but he could just make it longer term as no 1 or 2.

After that there are one or two potential goalies but far too early to tell - for example Jordam Archer spent season on loan at Bishops Stortford playing 38 games (I think), collecting their young player of the year, MOTM number of times etc, but in terms of experience and future he is in the same category as Butland - 5 years before realistically he could have a chance of being Spurs no 1.
