But the problem is Jurgen is that we all know we can't compete with the wages that other clubs pay.............this isn't new..we haven't recently built a 60,000 seater stadium and the last time I checked we haven't been bought by someone from the Saudi Royal family with a trillion pounds to spend.
Redknapp knows our limits therefore you would think he would be looking in the markets that we could actually buy players in!
You don't shop at Harrod's when you are on the dole!

 That's a terrible comparison. We're hardly on the dole are we? We're one of the richer clubs in the world, even if our wage structure isn't anywhere near as good as the big clubs. 'You shouldn't shop at Harrods when there's a nice M&S next door' would be a better comparison.

So if Harry tries for the best players he's an idiot for doing so, but if he doesn't he lacks ambition and has a small club mentality. Win win for Harry then, eh?

There are still very good strikers, who's wages we could afford.

Osvaldo at Espanyol
Soldado at Valencia
Jovetic at Fiorentina would be a great purchase
Lopez at Lyon would be within range
Barrios
Leandro
Abel Hernandez
Suarez was
Pazzini was
Falcao was

off the top of my head. If we do have transfer funds to spend then Llorente is probably the best striker in the world, who's wage demands wouldn't be astronomical. Surely Levy et al knew wages were always going to be a problem with the likes of Aguero ? We should've identified targets who's wages were in our ballpark limits and gone after them aggressively, without wasting time on the likes of Aguero/Adebayor/Forlan etc.

Of course, none of us are really sure what is going on, but this is the way it seems to me, that we could've done earlier and better prepatory work in discovering the realistic targets who could still improve out team enormously.

Well maybe Levy should come out and say we won't be trying for top four any more because we cannot afford it? It seems depressingly clear that if we're sticking and waiting for financial fair play we'll be pissing in the wind..

Isn't the point that in general wages are such a joke now that what we can pay won't actually get players that will improve us much? The players of the level to help us get back into the CL... the players fans think are befitting of a club like ours..

I'm not even blaming Levy, we cant magic money into the club, though could be less obstinate about player prices.. but lets judge the club and the manager accordingly then. It would be a financial anomaly for us to get back into the CL...

I'd agree generally but say I think a number of those would be earning more than we can pay already, or more pertinently be looking for more than we can pay to move to us, and a number of those like Hernandez are in the risky category. But lets hope we're willing to risk on someone.. we've had itk that Barrios is achievable..

There are plenty of young players out there who are soon to become the superstars of next season..................we should know who they are and we should be trying to buy them now!

Really ? Some rough guesses....

Osvaldo 40K odd
Soldado 50-60k odd
Jovetic 40K-50K odd
Suarez Pazzini Falcao were all on 40-50K odd last summer
Lopez maybe 70-80K odd

all the rest I reckon would be below. If we're looking to eek out a few 80K-100K odd wages, if we get players out, lots of those might have been gettable.

Again, I wouldn't like to pass full judgement until the window is done and dusted though.

i think we are going to be a lot further behind the top 4 this season because not only have we not got what we need for the coming season but when we had an incentive last year of champions league we did not use it.

we had the chance to progress yet we stood still, so if we could not utilise what we had going for us last year what are the chances we can progress this year.

Zigic and zamora would seem to be the height of our ambition and then the excuses come of we tried to sign this and that player knowing full well we had no chance but at least it will keep the fans buying season tickets and club merchandise.

You can only pull the wool over our eyes for so long Mr l evy.

I'm sure the height of our ambition is much greater than these two, but unfortunately reality does not always meet ambition and then pragmatism needs to set-in.

Having said that, I still believe we'll do better than both these.
