I'm quite surprised to see anyone willing to take a chance on Victor at the moment tbh, he's looked so poor at the back end of last season and now picked up yet another injury. I was amazed Poch preferred him to Skipp for certain games.

Poor for a top 4 side yes. Any club in the bottom half of the table would love a player like a Wanyama if he can play regularly.

One thing I think that is worth noting around our past few windows. Yes, we haven’t added as much quality as we like (last window signing nobody was obviously a massive disappointment I believe for everybody). However, a large part of the reason that we haven’t been overly active in the transfer market is because we haven’t been able to get rid of players that are either (a) past their due despite being good players for us at some points or (b) dud signings.

This year we have had leave the squad:
Janssen
Trippier
Llorente

With Ndombele joining (and Jack Clarke next year) and potentially Wanyama leaving. I do not believe Rose will leave unless some serious unexpected offer comes in. You also have some others like GKN that we would be more than happy to offload.

That’s a significant saving on the wage budget, a significantly reduced squad in terms of size, and gives us a lot more flexibility to be active in the last week in terms of “grabbing opportunities” that come up. So I wouldn’t be shocked if we see something unexpected in the final week, although hopefully we obtain our first choice targets. I also think that, although it’s a bad thing that we haven’t made any signings, it’s a great thing that we haven’t made any dud signings that we will struggle to offload in the future. It also means that if we don’t make the signings we want to fill out the squad, we will give youngsters an opportunity, which can bring the same if not more energy to the squad as a new signing if they have the right quality.
Re. Any ‘dud’ signings. I think there is ample opportunity for any of the ones we’ve signed or have been linked to, to be just that. There will be no guarantees with any of them imo, including Ndombele.

that's the big risk I'm talking about and that the injuries have severely reduced his mobility
Players still get a move even with their injuries. Huddlestone was riddled with injuries and got a move to Hull. Fletcher from United to WBA etc. Lesser teams appreciate the experience and quality they bring, even if it’s only for half a season. I hope ITK is correct and that he’s leaving though. We can’t rely on him anymore.

Obviously happy with Sessegnon but in the context of this season only it's not a massive deal and not sure it's a net improvement on what we have.

He has of course the potential to be far better than Rose but as it stands now he's probably a worse player. I think I see it as more next season's business done early like Jack Clarke, which is certainly no bad thing.

It's the midfield we need to focus on if we are serious about trophies this season.

Manchester City won the League with Zinchenko and Delph at left back and Liverpool won the Champions League with a 19 year old Trent Alexander-Arnold.

I think the point rebrab was making is that our signings are all likely to be top tier signings who even they fail - and hopefully not - they'll likely be suitors for them. However, when your gamble signings like Nkoudou and Janssen from the mid range tier fail, there's not going to be much appetite for them from elsewhere

ITK says Onomah is going to Fulham as part of the Sessegnon deal so that would be another first team-listed player out. A report says Carter Vickers may be going on loan again so that would be another. I cannot see Levy letting either Eriksen or Toby go on a free in a year. They'll either both sign a year's extension or he will sell this window. Should be an interesting week.

If they want to run down their contracts, there's nothing Levy can do about it. They only have to refuse to go and Levy can't sell like that.

Stretching a fair bit to call either "first team-listed players". Neither have been in the squad for nearly 2 years now

I'm sorry if this is a little off topic, but a big thanks as usual to all ITK even the retired @Grey Fox and mods, and @Rob for providing this site, and @Archibald&Crooks for not banning me:cautious:

I go away tomorrow and WiFi not brilliant and not going to go look for it as I doubt I could cope with the excitement or the meltdowns when trying to relax and enjoy myself.

cheers all and thanks, don't throw your toys out the pram to hard, you might injure an OAP:whistle:

i find it interesting that we're getting rid of a few 'duds' this window. more realistic transfer fees or a hotter market at the moment? doesnt seem to many proven players available to the lesser teams at lowish fees any more

Reckon Levy will find a way to offload them out if they don't sign.
