Anyone would think it’s the 31st not 3rd January.

Not sure everyone will survive if they carry on like this...

We have a genuine issue in that we can’t seem to shift our deadwood in order to sign players to be developed over time. At the same time a number of key players look on the way out and we can’t entice players of their quality in. We are becoming increasingly reliant on our (at least very good) youth system. Rather than growing the squad we look like diminishing it. The finances will need to change.

I remember the exact same dead posts at the start of the summer transfer window.

We obviously won’t sign anybody this month, but I’m not too fussed. We seem to be doing okay even in somewhat of an injury crisis. I don’t see how we’ll ever sign anybody ever again, to be honest.

Bit of both. I know of a club that promised an agent I know if he got one player to go them they would take another that they didn't really want and they would help out with others regarding media etc. Two signing on fee's for the agent plus drumming up interest for his other players etc. He didn't do it but it goes on an awful lot. Not so much backhanders but Agents not doing what's best for their players without them knowing.

Love snippets like this, hearing about how the wheels are greased etc. Thanks Trix.

Well... we'd better win the League and the Champions League this season because we're unlikely to have the chances again for quite some time.

Poch saying we have to sell before we buy. We knew that already but this was from the horse’s mouth.

"In case we do not sell players, it is impossible to bring players and to find the capacity to bring [players in]."

Mauricio Pochettino on the possibility that #thfc sign no-one this month: "I would not be disappointed. I know very well that January is always difficult. In the same way, if you find some player, look what happened to different players that arrive in January last season."

"It takes time to understand and to perform, to fit with the team. Sometimes it is better not to sign if you do not find the right player. Sometimes it is better for the team spirit. But not in general."

And even if we do sell players, the ones we want apparently are turning us down. So..

Interesting point this one. Not just Moura as an obvious example. Many Utd fans would argue the Sanchez signing messed up their season. Martial was on a hot streak I believe and then got bombed out for him.

January is tricky in many ways. But our squad is really stretched this season.

VVD slotted right in at Pool, but CB is more of a universal role, regardless of a teams set up. Maybe DM could fall into a similar slot if we got one.

Same shit every window?

Granted last window sucked but the previous window saw us sign Lucas, who has contributed heavily to our thus far excellent season.

The window before that saw us sign Sanchez and Foyth, thank fuck we have both of them given the injuries and contract situations surrounding the Belgians.

The January before that was blank, but the summer before that saw Wanyama (who proceeded to have a sensation season) and Sissoko (who is currently having a sensational season) arrive.

The summer before that saw Alderweireld, Trippier, Son and Wimmer arrive. The former three are still currently in our best xi, the fourth was pivotal in us finishing 3rd and qualifying for the champions league for the first time since 2010.

The January before that? Dele Alli, who made immediate impact and is one of our most important players still. The summer before that? Ben Davies and Eric Dier, the former finishing last season as the league’s top assisting defender, the latter making an immediate impact and to this day remaining a first choice player via a multitude of international caps.

Same old shit every window? We’ve had one bad summer, and other than that have been very successful throughout Pochettino’s tenure, with no fewer than 12 players across 8 windows before last summer who have made significant contributions to our magnificent improvement as a club,

Hey buddy some great points. However my expectations have changed over this period as before i was not too fussed about winning the league and happy with CL, yet Sir Poch has bought us within grasp of winning the fucking league and to match that ambition a marquee signing is what the heart desires!

Pulisic has started 5 league games for Dortmund this season, he would be well down the pecking order at spurs too. I'm not bothered him going to Chelsea, and especially for 60mill.

Pulisic has followed the money. Sancho has shown him up to be a small thin prick that runs fast but lacks a football brain. The Dortmund hype machine fooled the Chavs into buying a poor mans Hazard. Fuck him the ****.

De Jong is following the Barca glory trail. I have more respect for him.

“De Jong turned us down, as did Pulisic”

This. This is a concern.

Don't be so naive to think we couldn't have done more to get these ideal targets over the line. We offered our terms, and they rejected us. Tough reading and a concern moving forward. These are legitimate players to improve our starting eleven, and they turned our project down. A concern

I wonder if we really needed Pulisic after Lucas? I mean does Poch need two small fuckers that run fast and play off the main striker in the same team? I was never fully convinced about the hype after his break out season for Dortmund in 2017.

In contrast I would have loved De Jong. A real Rolls Royce player in the making if he stays fit. Impressed with some of his recent displays.

There are still plenty of vet very good youngsters further down the league that could work their way into our first team.

For example, James Maddison (Leicester) was picked up from Norwich for £20m, and two of Liverpool's much vaunted defense, Joe Gomez and Robertson were picked up from lower down the leagues cheaply, Gomez from Charlton for £3.5m and Robertson from Hull for £8m.

A rolls Royce of a player? Does that mean over priced, likely to break down and shit in the cold, but looks lovely on the eye?
